Glorious!!!

That is the word I would use to describe the almost 3 mile walk I just took.  It was very mild here and although it was not sunny, Spring was definitely in the air.  While I have walked on mild days in January there are many differences today.  Today, the smells are different, and like I can smell the coming of the first snow in Autumn, I can smell Spring.  I can’t tell you exactly what it is but it is unmistakable and fills me with a hope and faith that is hard to describe.  This walk did as much if not more for my mental fitness as for my physical.  I walked with Sassy and Zoey, not daring to take Delilah, who would probably decided a few hundred feet into the walk, that she did not want to continue.  She is truly too heavy for me to lift up and I had no stroller to wheel her home in, if I somehow managed to lift her.   When I take her, Jimi and I will need to go together and if she decides to just lie down and not move any more, one of us will have to run back home for the car.

Anyway, I walked with a smile on my face, so grateful for the chance to walk in the beauty that surrounds me.  As I get older I know too well just how short life is.  How we never know if it will be our last day or a loved one’s last day on this Earth.  Given the tragedy in Japan, I do not take lightly the fact that I can walk, breathe fresh air and feel safe.  Sometimes I feel like Heidi, but I love “my mountain.”  It will not be long until the remaining thin layer of ice on the lake melts, until the water is full of boats and kids and life.  While I was thinking of why it felt so different to walk today than say in January on a mild day, it hit me!  The birds, the beautiful songbirds, our snow birds who take off to spend their winters in the south were back.  Not only were they back but they were singing loudly and it was so beautiful to hear.  As we came upon a house on the other side of the lake, a man who was putting up sheet rock inside a house stepped outside.  It was near quitting time for him and he was putting some of his tools in the bed of his truck.  He saw Sassy first and called to his co-worker in the house, “Hey, a little dog!”  Then he saw Zoey and I approach.  He was adjusting things in his truck and he said, “Wow, more people walking around here then cars.”  I don’t know if he expected this small private lake to be like the Indy 500, but he said it, like it almost annoyed him.

I replied, “Well, it’s a beautiful day!”

“Could be better”, was his flat reply.

I thought for a moment, maybe he was having a bad day.  Maybe he was the kind of person who felt everything could be better.  Maybe, he had a fight with his wife or lost someone close to him.  However, I told him that is was good enough and that it will get better.  He muttered something and I thought a moment and as I passed the house I turned and looked over my shoulder in his direction and called out, “I’ll take it!”

The day lilies breaking through the ground.

Who says you can’t bury your head in the snow?

A Whale of a Sale!!!

It does not matter how much money I have or don’t have, one thing is true.   I get almost giddy when I get something I need on an incredible sale. Yesterday, I hit a jackpot of sorts.  I got myself 4 pair of Jones New York velour cozy yoga pants (I walk and workout in them), that were originally $59 for $4 and change. If that was not a great enough deal, I then picked up Levi jeans for Ethan at $6.81 a pair.  I could not believe it but I love it!!!  Got a few more bargains but those were my biggest.

It was a glorious and warm day here and I took a great walk outside with the puppies.  It felt wonderful and you can definitely smell spring in the air.  All the snow is melting so rapidly.  I know it is supposed to be cooler the next few days but there is no denying spring is coming.  Yesterday, when I was shopping the bathing suits, gardening supplies, swim toys and Easter candy were a very welcome sight.

Remember, a few weeks back I told you all I was stressing over Ethan’s birthday cake and that it was going to be a construction scene.  Yesterday, I got the trucks for that and then in another store I found the perfect things for a John Deere tractor cake.   I bought those too because with two little boys they are not going to go to waste for sure.  I plan to ask him what he would rather have, and then start my mental planning.

It is a time of planning isn’t it? Springtime, and the anticipation of rebirth and renewal.  I am mentally preparing my garden and I decided I am going to ask my husband to build me another large raised bed.  I already have 2 but I want to add a third.  I cannot wait to get my hands into the soil and to start planting.  Are you all planning a garden?  I love being able to grow healthy food that I know was not sprayed with pesticides.  I also love showing my kids how things grow.  I would love to add some free-ranging chickens for eggs and for fun, but with our pack of dogs, it just does not mix.  Heck, I have even wanted a goat or two and a miniature donkey.  That does not sit so well with my husband, who knows he is the one who takes care of all the animals.  I try to sell him on the healthy benefits of our own goat milk and making our own goat cheese, but he just points to a farm down the road where we can pick that up.  So no chickens, goats or donkeys but I will have my garden.

Don’t forget the cookie stamp give-away is over in a few hours.  I have so many great give-aways coming up.  Great things like $25.00 gift certificates and gift cards to various establishments like Dali Decals, environmentally friendly products, toys and so much more.  Make sure you subscribe to the blog so you do not miss out.

Spring Is Coming!!!

I can totally feel it!  Everyday I hear of birds that are back in town and about the Easter candy being out at Wal-Mart.  The temperatures are getting higher and we are supposed to be near 60 on Friday!!!   I am planning on walking outside instead of on my treadmill.  The other thing that makes me know spring is coming, is we just signed Ethan up for T-ball.  We have literally been waiting for years, (I know he is not even 4 yet) but this child was ready pretty much out of the womb.  Last night, Jimi took him to a basketball game at the school. Afterward, Ethan was playing, dribbling, and shooting while Jimi was talking to a friend, who also coaches a basketball program for kindergarten and 1st graders.  The friend said he has not one 5-7 year old who can handle the ball the way Ethan does.  So being able to finally play a sport, is very big here.  T-ball is the first and then he will be eligible for soccer in the fall.  Anyway, just thinking to warm evenings at the ball field watching the little ones embark on their first season of T-ball can even make a skeptic smell spring in the air.  Oh, and I got my latest issue of Martha Stewart Living and the cover stated it was time to start planting.   Which reminds me, the last time I was at the store, all the peat pots and seeds were making their debut.   Believe me I am just planning my  vegetable garden in my head and cannot wait to see how my perennials will look this spring.

What have you seen that tells you spring is near?   I would love to hear.  Hope everyone is doing well and remember we have our give-away for the Gourmac cookie stamps ending soon so be sure to get yourself in it.

Groundhog Day!!!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow!!!  I am so happy that he did not see that groundhog shadow.  I am doubly happy because Staten Island Chuck did not see his shadow either.  We will have an early spring!!!  Did the groundhogs in your neck of the woods see their shadows?   I hope not, hoping for an early spring.  I feel that is what we are going to have when we get out from under the new snow and ice we got pelted with the last 2 days.  Spring is right around the corner people!  Rejoice with me!!!

Snowy Friday!!!

Well, Friday we had a snow storm.  Nothing too tremendous but definitely enough for fun.  The little ones went out to play and Daddy snow-blowed the driveway.    Then when Ethan said his face had a boo boo (his cheeks were cold) we went in and got toasty warm.  I put on my Snoopy socks that Santa left in my stocking and  then we relaxed and Ethan drew a tractor on his doodle pro which I thought was just great.

I cannot believe it is almost the end of January.  Tomorrow will be the 25th!!!   I think January is a hard month for most people.  I just heard on the news the other day that the third Monday in January is the most depressing day of the year.  I guess with the holidays being over, bills coming in to be paid from holiday spending and the winter setting in just leads some to feel depressed.  Let’s embrace the fact that the days are getting longer and that January is just about over.  Just think next month is so close to Spring.  Before we know it we will be seeing the first crocus break through the cold ground.  That little brave crocus shows that even in the depth of winter their lies the hope of spring.  Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

January 15th!!!

Yeah, we are halfway over with this month.  We are closer to Spring and just think another 2 weeks and we can say, “Spring begins next month.”  Yesterday, Alexandra, Luke and I went into Scranton for some shopping.  I got Ethan and Luke the most adorable dress shoes for their Easter outfits.  Some may think I am crazy that I already have the boys’ Easter outfits and needed to get the dress shoes but that is just the way I am.  Anyhow, they were so excited with their dress shoes they have not taken them off all day except for nap time and they had to go right on after they got up.  The first time Ethan put them on he went into a tap dance, it was just too funny.  Anyway they will not take them off.  They are the cutest little shoes too.  They are by Kenneth Cole and they are black with a little side buckle but there is a velcro so their feet go in really easy and they are super comfy.  I also got Ethan some new winter boots, and Luke a new Zero Exposure winter coat for next year because I could not pass up the deal and then I went to check out and a lady gave me a coupon for 30% off my entire order.   So it was a super deal and I bought some clothes for Alexandra as well.  Three cheers for secret special savings!!!

Hope you all are having a great January and remember Spring is so close now!!!
