KUHN-RIKON, Collapsible Colander Review & Giveaway!!!

Kuhn-Rikon-Logo

Are you trying to streamline your kitchen and free up space?  It seems in January everyone starts thinking about organizing and clearing out clutter.  A colander is something no kitchen should be without but they can be awkward, bulky and take up a lot of space.  That’s why I really like the Kuhn-Rikon Small Collapsible Colander.  The sturdy silicone colander is ready in a second to handle your rinsing and straining needs but when its work is done, it collapses into a flat disc shape that can be stored in any drawer or cabinet with ease.

The colanders come in two bright, fun colors and sizes.  They are BPA free and dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.

How To Survive Winter Travel With Kids & Safety 1st, Advance SE 65 Air + Convertible Car Seat Giveaway!!!

safety1st_logo_trans

The holidays may be over but Winter travel is in full swing.  As the temps get colder many families decide to motor south for some fun in the sun and escape the winter chill.  Schools seem to know this too and many have a winter break carved out for families to do just this.

I thought this post from Safety 1st Consumer Safety Experts on “How to Survive The Holiday With Kids?” would be applicable for any kind of family getaway this winter season.  After reading, be sure and enter the giveaway to win a Safety 1st, Advance SE 65 Air + Convertible Car Seat!

safety 1st-St. Germain Car SEat- Winter Travel

According to AAA last year 94.5 million people were on the roads, train tracks or in the skies during the holiday season.  That’s a lot of people! Then add your own kids into the mix of congestion and for some it can mean holiday headaches.  However, Safety 1st has some tips to help fight some of those headaches this season.

1.      Avoid peak travel days –Try not to fly or drive the days immediately before and after the actual holiday.  Those are the busiest travel days. However, if you fly or take a train you might save money by traveling on the actual holiday, the roads are less congested too.

2.      Prepare your child for the trip – Holiday parties can be overwhelming with sensory overload.  Especially for young children it’s good to talk about the upcoming trip days even weeks in advance.  This will help him or her get excited about the journey.  Show photos of family members or friends your child has not met yet, this way the new face might be a little familiar on arrival.

3.       “Are we there yet?” – To help avoid that dreaded phrase an hour into your six-hour trip reserve a bag just for the kids, include books, toys, diapers a change of clothes and snacks.  Pre-load a tablet or smartphone with kid friendly apps or games. If you are driving keep all necessary items such as wipes, hand sanitizer or tissues easy to reach in a second – there are times you may not want to be digging through the bottom of a bag for such items. The Safety 1st Car Door Sanitation Station is a great solution.

4.      Car Seats – If you are flying check to make sure your car seat is FAA certified. If it’s not clearly labeled contact the manufacture. For parents with older children the Safety 1st BoostAPack can double as a kid survival kit, it’s FAA certified, and will fit in the plane overhead bin.

If you are driving make sure your car seat is installed correctly. If it’s been awhile since you visited a car seat check, it’s recommended to check your seat with a Certified Child Safety Technician in advance of your trip. Safercar.gov is a great resource.

5.      Prepare the guest room – If your child will be sleeping in a Play Yard during the trip, use that for bed or nap time the entire week before. This will help him or her get used to a new sleep environment.  Also if your infant or child sleeps better in a dark room or tends to wake up early with the morning light, bring garbage bags or dark fabric to tape over windows.

Play Doh Ruined Christmas? Parents Say Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset’s Penis Shaped Extruder is Obscene!!!

Play Doh Sweet-Shoppe-Playset

My Facebook feed was filled the last day or so all about some obscene Play Doh toy that is included in the Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset. Apparently the tool that is supposed to be used for cake decorating to dispense icing resembles another type of tool.  Reports of  outraged parents who claim the playset with its phallic shaped icing dispenser looks like a penis and is inappropriate for children.  The two-part icing extruder’s picture has been blasted all over Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and more.  There are even reports that Hasbro removed parent comments on their Facebook page which outraged the already furious parents even more.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page Tuesday, Hasbro said, “We have heard some consumer feedback about the extruder tool in the Play-Doh Cake Mountain playset and are in the process of updating all future Play-Doh products with a different tool. Should any consumer want a replacement extruder for this item, they can contact Hasbro’s Customer Service Department at 800-327-8264.”

If you look on Amazon the Playset is still available for sale and people are scooping up the playsets for collectibles.  The reviews on Amazon are mostly tongue in cheek and make references to the extruder like the ones below:

My wife is never giving this back to the kids

By et on December 31, 2014

It loses a star because while I got this for the kids (and they loved the IDEA of it once they tore off the wrapping paper), my wife has been keeping the ‘shoppe’ for her own use. In fact she’s been in our spare bedroom playing with it all day. When I call through the door to ask when she’s going to be coming out, she keeps telling me she’s off to a good start but she hasn’t ‘finished.’ I just hope next time I get in on the action. Meanwhile, the kids are just heartbroken that their toy is now mama’s toy. Play-Doh’s marketing department really screwed the pooch on this one.

Extruder is elegantly designed and titillatingly fun!

By Mike on December 31, 2014
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging

Great fun for young and old! For some reason, the extruder keeps turning up missing. But luckily my wife always ends up finding it. The Play-Doh always comes out of the ribbed extruder with a nice creamy texture. Caution: Don’t push in and out on the extruder too fast or hard, or it will release its contents way too soon.
Sometimes an extruder is just an extruder, January 1, 2015
By Sabriel
This review is from: Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset (Toy)
Sometimes a toy is just a toy and not a Dil-Doh. If you like to make pretend cakes, then this is the toy for you. If you like to project your insecurities onto your offspring, this might also be the toy for you!
You can read more reviews HERE.

Love to hear you sound off on this.  Did Santa stuff your stocking or pack your tree with the Play Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset?  What do you think? Are parents justified to claim this toy ruined their Christmas?  Do you think the design was intentionally and designed by an employee wanting to screw with their boss (no pun intended, oh maybe I did intend on using the pun lol).  Let us know what you think in the comments!

Kid’s Academy, Improved Free Learning Game Apps For Kids!!! #MomBuzz

kids academy logo

Preschool & Kindergarten Books, Songs & Early Reading Games App

This app has added a new feature. Classic children’s fairytale titles are now available like The Princess and the Pea, Puss and Boots and more. Now with the free version you get just a snippet of the books and then you can purchase a pass for all of them or for an individual book. The books are beautifully illustrated and they app brings the stories to life in an engaging way that kids just love to see and they can also follow along with the text.  This is such a fun App and kids love hearing and singing along with the familiar BINGO song. Kids can clap and sing along as they watch the letters appear in the cute farm scene with the adorable dog. There is an upgrade of the free version where kids can even record and play a karaoke session or just sing and clap along. There are mini games too that are fun like animal cards and kids can also make up and record their own stories. My little guy loves recording himself and playing it back.

Alphabet Tracing & Montessori App

This Alphabet Tracing and Math Puzzle Educational App is wonderful for teaching kids how to form letters and it is easy for them to trace the letters with their fingers.  A very hands on app that will encourage them to form letters the right way and get them writing.  Perfect for preschool and kindergarten age kids.  Children can trace upper case letters of the alphabet with in purchase apps for expanded tracing.  There are also fun mazes and rhyming games for kids and a purchase for an all access pass will give your child access to loads of great learning games.

Based on the Montessori learning method your child will develop and practice spelling, reading and writing skills while playing engaging games.  Kids will practice writing their letters and their handwriting skills too!  Kids love tracing dotted lines to learn how to form letters. The can form lower or upper case letters. There are fun mazes where they have to drag the dog’s bone to a word that rhymes with the word that the dog is thinking of  as well as simpler mazes where they lead the dog to his prize.  It is so cute and my little guy loves it!  Kids are rated with 1, 2 or 3 stars for their performance.

Preschool and Kindergarten Games App

They have updated this app and it is easy better it runs better and the graphics are more vibrant making them even more captivating to kids. The same games are there but the bright colors and clear graphics and animation make them even more fun. Great improvements on a stellar app. Kids will practice writing their letters and their handwriting skills with fun games and activities. Kids have a blast tracing dotted lines to learn how to form letters. I like that there are left and right hand modes, 2 levels of difficulty challenges kids.

Kids trace one letter with the dotted lines and then they try one that has no guiding lines right after. Before they are given the letter they hear the letter name and the picture of something that starts with that letter. You can choose to work on Upper or lower case letters. There are other games like the Alphabet and kids have so much interactive fun focused on a specific letter and learning vocabulary words that start with that letter along with fun graphics. Kids can trace numbers too and when they trace the number correctly they fill up a jar with fire flies. It is really fun and my little guy loves it! Kids are rated with 1, 2 or 3 stars for their performance. The free version can be upgraded to unlock more games and features.

How To Make An Adorable Applique Birthday Shirt!!! Easy and Quick Project!

I like to have birthday shirts for my kids and take a picture of them in it on their actual birthday.  A few years ago I made one but most of the time I buy them. However, after the success I had with the Christmas shirts, I decided to try and make an applique birthday shirt for my son.  It was so easy and looked great!  If you would like to try, you can follow the easy tutorial here.

DIY Birthday Shirt Collage

Supplies:

  • Plain Shirt- short or long sleeve
  • Material- small amount for number
  • Number Template- easy to find online
  • Scissors-Craft and Fabric
  • Thread to coordinate with number fabric and shirt
  • Sewable Heat Bond
  • Iron
  • Straight Pins
  • Sewing Machine with Applique Stitch or you can Zig Zag.

Prep:

Make sure to wash your fabric and shirt before starting and then iron.

1. Cut some fabric for your number

bday shirt 1

2. Cut a piece of sewable heat bond and iron it on the back side of the fabric.  **Remember when cutting the sewable heat bond or the fabric that has it ironed on, never use your fabric scissors!  You will ruin them.  Always use your craft scissors when cutting anything with heat bond.

bday shirt 2

bday shirt 3

3. Place the number template on the front side of the fabric, pin and cut.

bday shirt 4

4. Remove the heat bond paper backing from the number,  the nice shiny texture will allow you to iron the number on and hold it securely to sew.

5. Iron the number on the shirt.

6.Take the shirt over to your machine and use an applique stitch around the edges

7.Trim the loose threads and iron the shirt and you are finished.

Please share with me if you try this.  I would love to see and hear about your creations.

Lugz, Women’s Shifter Work Boot Review & Giveaway!!!

Lugz-Logo

We have officially entered the winter season. If you are looking for a sharp looking, practical boot that will give you good traction no matter what winter dishes out, I have a recommendation.  I recently browsed Lugz great selection of boots and decided to try the Lugz, Women’s Shifter work boot in black.  Now, as a woman with size 11 feet, I was worried they would be huge and make my feet look tremendous.  I was wrong, in fact they make my feet look smaller.  The boots looked so small I thought they would be too small but they were not and provided lots of room for my feet.

The boots are sturdy and very high quality that will stand up to any amount of hard work or just a day out running errands.  The cushioned insoles keep my feet comfy and the sole provides lots of gripping traction to keep me on my feet and not slip sliding away on snowy or icy terrain.  As long time Lugz lovers, our family knows their shoes and boots stand up to lots of wear and keep looking good.  If you are looking for durable, good-looking footwear for your entire family, check out Lugz!

Right Now if you buy one pair of Lugz, you will get 50% Off another pair when you use the code BOGODEC but hurry this great offer ends December 30th!!! See the site for full details on this amazing offer.
