Candy Corn Painted Rocks-DIY Craft Tutorial
It seems that rock painting is all the rage now. I certainly was ahead of my time and ahead of this craze. I love painting rocks, river rocks are my favorite. Gathering them is a fun family adventure we all look forward to.
Sometimes I know exactly what size and shape rocks I want. This is due to the fact, that I have a specific project in mind. Other times, I try to find rocks that inspire me. You might not think rocks can inspire people, but they can! I see them as a blank canvas and they speak to me…well, some of them do.

I can clearly visualize the masterpiece they can become. Sometimes it is a fish, ladybug or owl, and other times it is a heart. One of my favorite projects was making rock candy corn.

It was so much fun to find the shapes I needed. Since I wanted to make a candy corn family that represented ours, when I found the especially tall and thin triangular river rock, I literally squealed with delight. That rock clearly represented my son Michael, it was so easy to see. I asked my youngest sons, who were gathering rocks with me, and they wholeheartedly agreed. It was definitely Michael, no doubt about it.

All you need is some acrylic craft paint, paint brushes, paint markers for detail painting and ModPodge sealer. If you want you can paint your rocks white on both sides first. It will take at least 2 coats of paint to get nice coverage.
When the tri color rocks are dry, you can then add personality with the paint markers.

Use ModPodge to seal and protect your creations.

Please let me know if you try this project, I would love to hear about your results.

Discover “The Answer” by Jeremy Camp #Giveaway #TheAnswer #FlyBy
What a week! With so many going through unspeakable pain due to the shooting in Las Vegas and the people trying to rebuild their lives in Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida and the Caribbean, one questions keeps coming to the surface…What is going on in this world?
This week, I also received Jeremy Camp’s new CD, The Answer. I thought the lyrics to the title track summed up a lot of what is on my mind and I am sure on the minds of thousands of others.
So many questions, the world is reaching
So many hurting, so many lost
With all this thriving, who can we lean on?
Creations crying, out from the dark
Another song on the CD that I think many will relate to is, Never Stopped Loving Me. It reminds us that no matter if you go astray or through a dark period, God never stops loving you. He is always there for you, and that is a very comforting.
Many of the tracks on this CD, have that recurring message in them. In Love So Great, the lyrics say:
You made a way when I was so lost
You came running when I could not
You gave your life to show me true love
And took my chains and gave me freedom
Word of Life, is another powerful song and I think it will speak to many in these times. You can view the video below.
Strengthen my broken parts
Lead me to Your open arms
Word of truth
The enemy speaks inside
In freedom I will rise‘Cause You called me out from the grave
So I can live like I’ve been changed
There is a new song in my soul
And it begins when I breathe in
Your word of life
(Your word of life)
Take me to a deeper place
Take me out of what is safe
And I will not be afraid
Spirit of God
Fill me with joy again
Springing up from within
It cannot be contained
And I stand face to face with the enemy
I will know that I am not forsaken
You surround me when the fire’s at my feetYou’re my defender
You fight for me
I will remember
You’re all I need
You are my healer
My remedy
Against the power of the unknown
And I will not stand alone
‘Cause You’re my defender
I can see You when the night is closing in
And I will trust You when it seems that there’s no hope
And I hold tight to the promise You have given
‘Cause this I know and I am confident
The Answer was just released on October 6th and is Jeremy Camp’s 15th career album in 15 years. Since his debut album, 2002’s STAY, Camp has established himself with numerous landmark accolades including four RIAA-Certified Gold albums, more than 4.5 million albums sold, a GRAMMY nomination, three American Music Awards nominations, multiple ASCAP awards, 41 radio No. 1’s, a Gold digital single (There Will Be A Day) and a multi-platinum DVD.
“What’s been amazing about The Answer is that all of the songs were inspired by just being present,” Camp shares. “There was no song where I was sitting there and had this epiphany when I was writing. In every writing session, any idea literally just came in the moment. I was praying the whole time, ‘Lord, give me opportunities to combine these things that You are doing in our hearts.”
Camp continues, “When things get tough our first initial reaction is to say, ‘I don’t know if I can handle this.’ I can just tell you there is nowhere else to run. We can turn our backs on the Lord, but that’s where the problems are. There is pain and there is hurt, and Jesus literally offers peace, He offers hope and joy, and He offers the words of eternal life. This song is to encourage others to stick to the only true source of life who gives us all we need – Jesus Christ.”

Why Even New Bloggers Should Never Work For Free
As a professional blogger, social media influencer and digital marketing strategist for almost 10 years, there is something that really gets under my skin. I rarely see it myself, because I nipped it in the bud many years ago. However, blogging forums are peppered with posts from new bloggers sharing how they received an email from a PR rep asking them to promote a service or app without any mention of compensation. Even over the internet, I can see the quivering lip of the new blogger, as they meekly ask, if this is okay. Some will try to justify it by saying they really have no right to ask for compensation, because their blog is brand new.
It isn’t just bloggers, who are routinely asked to “donate” their services. Photographers, Magicians, Vocalists, Graphic Artists and DJ’s are often asked by friends to provide their services for free. These well meaning friends will even go so far as to tell them it will be great experience, they will make new contacts and build their portfolio. The way they spin it, they should be so grateful to provide their services for nothing. When people get something for free, they don’t put much value in it. By accepting the gig, they are putting a nail in the coffin of their career. The bottom line is, if they want to be treated like a professional, they need to start acting like one!
Even the newest blogger needs to quit acting like their work has no value, and their time is not precious. This is easier said than done because many newbies have a hard time standing their ground. They may even try to justify taking the job for free, telling themselves it is a portfolio builder.
I tell new bloggers they are going to need a strong backbone. Next , they need to respond to the email with confidence. Their response should let the PR rep know that they think the app or service sounds like it would be a great fit for their blog audience and social media followers. Further more, they need to explain they are skilled at creating buzz worthy content that will drive targeted traffic to the brand’s website and social media accounts. Lastly, they need to ask what the compensation is for promoting this content on their blog and social media channels, I guarantee Gloria from XYZ Media is getting paid to find the bloggers and social media influencers to promote this, so why shouldn’t they?
I also prep them about how to respond if they receive a reply from Gloria stating the client has a very small budget and while they are not able to provide compensation for this campaign, they have many other clients and may contact them in the future for paid promotions.
Now, they say that for a reason, they want the new blogger to think, if they throw this away, they will never hear from this agency with any other opportunities. It usually works like a charm, and the rep gets free promotion that they then charge their client for. To make it worse, the blogger goes on the agency’s “Will Blog For Free” List. Their name will never make it to big budget clients, because by accepting the free gig, it showed the rep they are not a professional blogger.
The bottom line is, if you want to be taken seriously, you need to respond confidently, that you can definitely create buzz worthy content to promote the product or service, but you don’t work for free. Go even further, turn the tables and ask them if they work for free? Don’t be afraid, let them know, you are well aware they are not a volunteer at XYZ Media.
I’m not saying you should never volunteer for worthwhile things, but make sure you are not being taken advantage of. The perception some have of bloggers, is that what we do is so easy, or of such little value, we should be glad to have some content to post. They want us to think, they are really doing us a favor.
It is the exact opposite, bloggers are powerful influencers brands can plug-in with to have their product or service promoted to the blog’s audience which likely is their target market. Bloggers have the power to create and amplify stories, experiences, services, images and ideas through their posts as well as ingniting a social media fire storm of tweets, pins, posts, likes and shares on every major social media channel.
Start valuing your work! The next time you get an email from any rep or agency trying to make you feel special because they picked you to promote their client for free, just ask what the blogger compensation is. Go on, you can do it. Be proud of your work. When you feel the butterflies, just ask yourself if the client they are pitching you about is paying them for their services. You know the answer is yes, so why would you let them take advantage of you?
Have you ever dealt with someone asking you to do your craft for free like they were doing you a favor? How did you respond? Please share your stories, I would love to hear them.

Oh Susannah: Things That Go Bump Tour #OhSusannahBooks #Giveaway
If you are a regular Mommy Ramblings’ reader, you know we have been fans of Carole P. Roman’s books since her very first children’s book came off the presses. That is why I am thrilled to be part of this blog tour for her new book, Oh Susannah: Things That Go Bump.
This is such a great book! As a mother who is a passionate reader, fostering that excitement and love of reading in my children, is very important to me. Finding books that captivate their interest is crucial to me. This book does exactly that!
Susannah Maya Logan is not having a good day. I think all kids can relate to that. She does not want to go to her best friend, Lola’s sleepover. Sounds strange doesn’t it? What kid does not want to go to her best friend’s sleepover? Well, the reason is, Susannah thinks Lola’s house is big and spooky, not to mention, a ghost is said to live there! Beyond that Susannah’s big brother, Kai, loves to tease her with scary stories. What big brothers don’t? Scaring little sisters seems to come with the big brother job description. I should know, I have 3 older brothers.
As Susannah goes through the day, she sees people dealing with things that scare them. Her sight-impaired friend, Macy, is terrified of unicorns. Imagine that, I guess she doesn’t know how people are going crazy over unicorn everything. Another boy at a party is frightened by clowns. Who could blame him? With all the scary clowns around in the news and movies, I don’t think he is alone in that fear. Susannah’s teacher is afraid of getting a cold. I can relate to that, I hate when people come to work or school sick.
All of this helps Susannah to see that everyone is afraid of something. Everyone except Lola. Susannah wishes she could be more like her best friend who is not afraid of anything. At least she thinks Lola is not afraid of anything.
Susannah learns that people all have different ideas of what is scary and what is not, they are the only ones that can determine the difference.
I really enjoyed reading this book with my kids, because my youngest son has some fears that can make him miss out on things. This story provided a springboard to discuss exactly that. It opened a dialogue, I think many parents will find useful. Best of all, it was natural to discuss my son’s feelings as they related to Susannah’s fears. This book is for kids 7-10 years old, but can be read aloud to younger children too! The book is illustrated by Mateya Arkov

5 Tips For Your Home Improvement Project
There are many reasons why you might embark on a home improvement project. Maybe you are the owner of a new house and want to add your personal touch. Perhaps the house you bought was a fixer-upper, and you are ready to start tackling those renovations. Certainly, some homeowners opt for home improvements to increase the value of their homes. Whatever the reason, here are a few tips to help you with your next home renovation project.
Start With A Detailed Plan
A home improvement project can be complex, and the best way to make it easier is to have a specific plan about what you want to achieve. What is your budget for this renovation project? According to PlumbingFix, whether you want to buy new plumbing fixtures or renovate your kitchen, your plan needs to include a budget.
Are you planning small improvements you can do on your own or will you hire a professional? What is the time line for your home improvement project? When do you want to start? It seems simple enough, but lack of such a plan may back you into a corner. So, think it out and set your thoughts on paper before you begin.
Your Budget
How are you going to fund your home improvement project? While making home improvements are a great way to change the look and feel of your home, you need to be smart when deciding what areas to focus on based on what you can afford. Taking out a loan to cover home improvement expenses is not a wise move in most cases.
If you’re sure you want to move ahead with your home improvement project, set aside some savings in advance to put towards it. This way, you will not end up straining yourself or having to stop the project halfway through because you are over budget. Even if you have adequate funds for your project, being prepared is critical.
The DIY Option
The trend in home improvement has been leaning heavily towards do-it-yourself projects. One benefit of this is that it will save you on costs. The flip side, however, is that if you are not a professional, you might end up doing more damage than good. If you have set your mind on doing it yourself, then two things will serve you well.
One is to do your research on how to go about it. The second is to make sure you have the proper tools before you start. With the right information in your hands and the professional equipment needed to complete your home improvements, you can do it! However, always start with smaller improvement projects and keep things simple.
Why Hiring A Professional Matters
The type of home improvement contractor you select can either make or break your home improvement project. There are endless cases of people getting scammed by contractors who end up doing a horrible job. To avoid this, spend some time looking for the right contractor. They should be licensed, insured and experienced in doing the type of improvements you want.
Just like you would choose pest control Morristown NJ based experts to eradicate pests, you need a contractor with proven expertise in offering home improvement services to homeowners in your area. A professional ensures a thorough job, offers you great ideas and does the best job based on your budget.
Get Inspiration
Finding inspiration for your home improvement is easy. Look online or go to open houses and see what other homes look like. The bottom line is, with a picture of what you want your home to look like, it’s easier to go ahead with your home improvement project with a little help.
