Isn’t it time you took a #SummerCakeBreak?

I love summer, it is my favorite month. My kids are out of school, the weather is warm and we can enjoy these days making memories to cherish forever. Did you know July is National Ice Cream Month? It is, and what better way to celebrate summer than with ice cream? Better yet, let’s really celebrate with an ice cream cake.

Carvel Ice Cream Cakes were the cake we celebrated every birthday and special occasion with in my house growing up. I have so many great memories of my birthday parties with my school friends gathered around the table for ice cream cake. I continued that tradition in my own family, and my kids are sure glad I did.

When I was growing up we went to the Carvel store in the next town to get the cake, but today they are available at most major grocery stores like Shop Rite and Walmart.

Most of you know that our house is under a huge renovation and our kitchen is halfway done. Our lives have been in a great upheaval for several months, so we are trying to do things fun for the kids. This past Fourth of July weekend, I thought I would pick up a Carvel Family Size Ice Cream Cake when I was shopping in Walmart and have a nice treat with the family. My littlest ones could not wait, as soon as they knew I had that big Carvel Ice Cream Cake in the freezer, they started asking non-stop when we could eat it.

So, we set up a table outside and had an ice cream cake party to celebrate Independence Day. We let freedom ring with a scream for ice cream cake. With my house under construction and most of my things in storage, I did not have a lot to decorate with, but we did our best. I picked up some red star plates, some flag napkins, a flag tablecloth and a theme cowbell that I really like. The kids did not need a lot of fanfare, normally I would decorate the actual cake with my stash of cake decorating items, but they are in storage. Nevertheless, the kids did not mind and neither did the adults.

What about you? Isn’t it time for a #SummerCakeBreak?

Discover The “Once Upon A Time Bible” and “Storybook Bible” Today #OnceUponATimeBible, #FlyBy

It seems everyone is talking about how they loved Disney’s new Beauty and the Beast live action movie. Fairy tales and Disney Animation are more popular than ever and Zonderkidz wanted to publish a storybook Bible and full-text Bible that would resonate with families and children who love this type of media.

Teaching our kids about the stories in the Bible is easier when the stories are in a format that they are used to, using language they understand. Unlike fairy tales, the stories in these books are the real deal! What a great way to teach my children about real heroes and stories of faith straight from God’s word.

The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible features captivating illustrations along with a beautiful narrative that draws children in as you read aloud the major stories of the Bible. Stories include: Ruth, Abigail, Esther, The Parable of the Lost Sheep, The Prodigal Son, Mary Magdalene and many more. The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible is available at Sam’s Club and where books are sold.

The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible starts the way every great story does, with once upon a time. However this hardcover Bible is not full of fairy tales. This New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) translation highlights 6 stories we all know from the Bible and presents them in a way children can relate to and understand.

Each story is told on four pages in full-color, illustrated splendor. Stories include: God Makes Man and Woman, Isaac and Rebekah, Ruth Find Happiness, Queen Esther, Mary and Joseph and an Angel and He Lives! The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible is available in hardcover and pink leathersoft cover where books are sold.

Let me know what you think of these versions of the greatest story ever told!

My Top 11 Kitchen Essentials

I am in the middle of a huge home renovation including a new kitchen, 2 bathrooms, flooring throughout and more. It is a bit chaotic to say the least but I am trying to focus on the end result. I was thinking about what I would consider my top 11 kitchen essentials. I have a lot more than that, believe me, but let’s start with 11.

KitchenAid Mixer

My first would be my KitchenAid Mixer, it is actually my second one. My first was a classic and is still great but when we redid our kitchen almost 10 years ago, my husband bought me a bigger, badder one that matched our stainless steel appliances. I have the KitchenAid Professional 600 Series Bowl Lift Mixer in liquid graphite.

I never use anything else to mix up dough, cookie batters, cakes, frosting and so much more. It is definitely at top of my kitchen essentials list.

Number 2 would be a good set of knives. I have a Wusthof Knife Set with Knife Block. However, in our new kitchen we have a knife block that is built into a cabinet and a drawer with knife storage so we will be storing our knives there. With or without the block they are a great set of knives and tools.

 VitaMix Blender

Number 3 is my VitaMix Blender. I did a lot of research before getting this blender and I have not regretted the purchase once. I have both the wet and dry container and just love it. I used to have to keep it on my island as it was so tall with the container, but in the new kitchen design we created a special area for it. The cabinets will be raised up so that my VitaMix can fit underneath the counter even with the tall 64 oz container on. Imagine designing our kitchen around our VitaMix! That is how much we love it!

I use it to make all kinds of smoothies, soups, frozen treats and more. It works so well and I love the retro look. If you are considering one, just go for it, you will not regret it. I just found out they now make a low profile VitaMix with a wider 64 oz container that fits under most cabinets. I am still confident I did the right thing because these blenders are workhorses that last forever. I also like the retro appearance of mine better that the low profile models.

Cast Iron Cookware

Number 4 is our cast iron pans. I no long like to cook in non-stick cookware due to the potential health effects. We have our stainless steel pots and pans but also invested in several pieces of cast iron cookware. I really like that it releases iron into the food which is important to women like myself, who need to supplement their iron.

Emile Henry Bread Pans (Number 5,6 & 7)

Another favorite is my Emile Henry Bread Loaf Baker, Bread Cloche and Baguette Baker. I never knew I could make bread like this constantly from the first time. I adore these and would not dream of baking bread any other way.

 Emile Henry Butter Jar

With fresh bread you need to have butter and that brings us to number 8 in the top kitchen essentials list, the Emile Henry Butter Jar. I love how I never need to deal with hard butter and have spreadable butter all the time.

 Vita Clay Smart Organic Multicooker

Next up, my Smart Organic Multicooker by Vita Clay. With all the news about crock pots leaching lead into food, I love this healthier option to slow cook my food. Not only that, this is a rice cooker and yogurt maker. Best of all no lead leaching in our food.

 Keurig 2.0

The strangest thing happened, I used to be a major coffee drinker but my friend told me about bullet proof coffee, you know that coffee you make with grass-fed butter and coconut oil or MCT oil. I hated it, but drank it to see if it would give me the crazy energy it promised.
It did not, I am high energy anyway and it did nothing to boost that. I will tell you what it did do, it made me hate coffee! Coffee was something I used to savor and look forward to. The short time that I was drinking the bullet proof coffee, it totally killed my taste for coffee. Even when I went back to drinking it like I wanted, I could barely finish a cup. Anyway, I totally cannot drink it now and drink only tea.
My husband on the other hand is a coffee addict and so my next kitchen essential is our Keurig 2.0. We have been Keurig users since 2010 and have 2 larger Keurigs and one mini. However he has full use of it now that I am not drinking coffee.

 Electric Tea Kettle

My Electric Tea Kettle as a tea drinker is my best friend. I can bring it almost anywhere like in my office and have my tea without any hassle. There are all kinds of electric kettles, my daughter loves her Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle and has it at her desk at work. She says it is the best and can have her tea at the perfect temperature any time.

Well, that is my top 11. It was hard to pick and I could go on for at least another 11 that I feel are essential to the well performing kitchen. I will do that another time.

In the meantime, tell me what some of your top kitchen essentials are? I would love for you to share your answers in the comments.

More Gift Ideas For The PJ Masks Fans on Your Holiday Gift List!

I am pretty stressed lately, we are in the middle of several home renovations and one of them is our kitchen. During the holiday season, I love to bake. This year, our kitchen is in the process of being demoed so that is not possible. We are doing the best we can and plan to do a lot of baking once our new kitchen is complete.

Our kids are feeling it too, I try to do things to make it as normal as possible. As temps get colder, playing outside is not always something we can do. As a PJ Masks Official Blogger, I get a sneak peek at the newest products. I was thrilled recently to receive a box full of goodies and want to share them with you. If you are still doing your holiday shopping and have a PJ Masks fan on your list, you might see something they would like.

The PJ Masks Color & Activity Book from Crayola includes hours of creative fun featuring PJ Masks favorites Connor/Catboy, Amaya/Owlette & Greg/Gekko. The Activity book includes over 30 pages of coloring pages and activities. Great for coloring at home, or taking on-the-go. My kids love coloring these pictures and it gives them a great outlet for their creative energy. Available exclusively at Toys “R” Us.

If you are traveling this holiday season, the PJ Mask Lunch Box Tin with Handle Themed Jigsaw Puzzle is perfect for fun on-the-go. This tin has a convenient handle and I love that it stores the 24 piece puzzle. Once completed  the puzzle forms an overall dimension of 15 inches x 12.5 inches. From Cardinal Games this set is available at Toys “R” Us.

Memory games are one of my favorite games to play with my kids. PJ Masks characters are the stars of this Wonder Forge PJ Masks Matching Game. This is the classic memory game where you compete with each other to match the most pairs. You can choose to use as many pairs as you want in order to customize the game to your children’s age. There are pictures of Catboy, Owlette, Gekko, Romeo, Luna Girl and more!

Race toward justice with this board book shaped like Catboy’s Cat-Car with wheels that really move!  To The Cat-Car, everyone, it’s time for super cat speed! PJ Masks are on their way, into the night to save the day! Kids will love racing around with this interactive board book that includes moveable wheels to really make the Cat-Car go! This is a great book for your child to take wherever they go.

And in more SUPER news, I’m so excited to share that a brand-new PJ Masks app, Super City Run, was just launched on Thursday, December 8!  With the new app, kids can run through the maze-style city as their favorite PJ Masks hero trying to catch the villains and collect the items they’ve been stealing – while keeping an eye out for any traps they might have set with their pesky sidekicks. The PJ Masks Super City Run app allows for new game play every time, so the fun is never-ending! Find it on iTunes and Google Play.

So did you see anything you like? Let me know in the comments.

Celebrate The True Meaning of Christmas With Your Family #Giveaway

As a parent, I feel the true meaning of Christmas is lost among all the commercialism that surrounds us. Teaching children the true meaning of Christmas is very important but not always an easy thing to do. That is why I really like the new pop-up book celebrating the Nativity by Robert Sabuda. The Christmas Story is a visual feast, a holiday treasure to be shared with the whole family.

the-christmas-story

As you open each page, the age-old inspiring story of the birth of Jesus is lovingly brought to life by master pop-up artist, Robert Sabuda in six gorgeously imagined scenes.

The culmination of the story ends with a 3-D manger sheltering humans and beasts, guarded by an angel above. Glittering touches of gold and pearlescent foil add detail to the intricate cut out images that pop to life on each page. Start a new tradition with your family with this inspirational book that tells the story of what Christmas is all about!

Jazz Loves Disney and You Will Love This Album! #JazzLovesDisney

Are you a Disney music lover? Did you know Walt Disney loved Jazz? He did and he paid great attention to the writing of music accompanying his hero’s adventures. Songs were written and played to act as a catalyst of emotions and personalities for his unique characters like, Jiminy Cricket, Baloo, Tinker Bell, Woody and more! Many of these songs went on to be nominated for or won Academy Awards. That served as a true acknowledgement of the quality of these beloved and enchanting future standards, many have been covered by jazz and pop stars at some point in their career.

The Album, Jazz Loves Disney was recorded between Paris, London and Los Angeles by a dream cast. The album is a true tribute to the beautiful and symbolic tunes of Walt Disney’s magical world. You can feel the connection these stars had to the music that must have elicited the sweet childhood memories they had of these classic songs.

Go Out And Seize Your #PoiseMoment

Did you ever notice it is those things we don’t discuss and feel alone with that we eventually find out are so common. Once we start to talk about it, others usually chime in and before long we know we are not alone. I think that is one of the things I like most about blogging. As a blogger, I can use my blog and voice to bring awareness about all kind of things. If I can help just one person to feel better or live a better life, that is significant to me.

I am going to talk about something I think will end up helping way more than 1 person and to do that I am going to get out of my comfort zone. After naturally birthing 5 huge babies I noticed that I experienced light bladder leakage (LBL) that was triggered by exercise, coughing or sneezing. I did not even know at first because it only happened every once in a while but when I finally figured it out I was a little upset. I mean, I had heard about it and had friends that talked about it but really did not experience it myself. So I began to research it and I found out that 1 in 3 women experience LBL. Some women experience it during pregnancy and some after but it is very common.

I was also not surprised to find out that many women used period pads or panty liners to absorb leaks. You might think it does not sound like a bad idea  but period pads were not designed for LBL. Many other women did not use any kind of protection and found their lives interrupted because of unexpected LBL.

poise 4

In an effort to bring awareness about the Poise brand they teamed up with Brooke Burke-Charvet to help educate women about LBL and empower them to seize their Poise moment. So what is a Poise moment? A Poise moment is the exact point when a woman stops letting leaks interrupt their lives and try products like Poise Thin Shape Light Absorbency pads.

The New Poise Thin-Shape Light Absorbency pads are the thinnest pads for LBL! These pads are designed to move with a woman’s body and they stay three times drier than the leading period pad. The Absorb-loc core quickly works to lock away wetness and odor while the leak-block sides add outstanding leakage protection. Having this type of protection gives a woman confidence to stop worrying about leaks and just enjoy life!

Poise

I don’t experience LBL a lot but I do notice that it occurs with some types of  reaching or stretching activities. Since there is no way to tell if it will happen or not the Poise Thin Shape Light Absorbency pads are a preventative measure that lets me forget about the what-if and just do the types of things I love without letting LBL take control and limit my activities.

This past weekend I climbed Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid. Whiteface Mountain is the 5th highest mountain in New York State. When I reached the top, I felt amazing! I did not limit my activities because I was afraid I might have some LBL due to all the stretching and climbing. I seized my moment and I climbed that mountain!

Poise 2

It is hugely empowering to take back control and I have Poise to thank. I was one of those women that thought Poise was no different from thin period pads or liners. I thought a pad was a pad but it was not until I finally tried Poise that I found out there is a significant difference and that is when I felt the need to tell other women. I want to let them know they do not have to limit their activities due to LBL.. So live a vibrant, active life and not only seize the day but Seize your Poise Moment.
