Tips to Help Keep Your Kids Safe on the Internet

Your Child Will Be Exposed To The Internet

There are a wide range of threats to children online. These threats come in many different forms, from cyberbullying to identity theft schemes to predators who want to meet your child offline. These threats can be daunting and difficult to fathom, but with solid awareness and a plan to keep your child protected, your child can avoid most online pitfalls.

Your child is going to be exposed to the internet. In this day and age, it is unavoidable. Your child will be online at school, or at a friend’s house, and you won’t always be able to directly monitor them. You can’t prevent your child from being online, but you can instill good habits and keep tabs on their internet use in general. Here is what you need to do in order to keep your child safe when they are online.

Defining Safe Internet Use For Children

The first thing that you need to do is work to understand what safe internet use for children is. You should instill in your children that they need to keep their phone numbers, home addresses, and personal contact information offline. They shouldn’t talk to strangers online, and you should let your children know what types of websites are acceptable for viewing and which types of websites to avoid.

A child without direction could give away personal information to a stranger in a chatroom. If a child feels uncomfortable or that they made a mistake online, they should contact an adult they know and trust immediately. One easy way to keep you and your child’s personal information safe is through the use of a VPN.

Parents And Children Need To Stay Aware Online

There are new dangers popping up online each year, and parents need to know the dangers so that they can keep their children protected. There are email phishing schemes that seek to gain access to children’s personal information with a seemingly harmless email message. There are the risks of cyberbullying and pornography. Parents should stay aware of the risks and keep their children up to date on new potential threats online.

Tips For Parents

The good news for parents is that when children stay safe online, they can have a good time and learn more than if they were offline. The key is to establish rules early in the process so children know what is in bounds and what is off-limits. Make sure that your children use strong passwords and always log out of their email and social media accounts, so that they don’t allow access to the next person who uses their computer (such as at a school computer library).

Parents should always read the fine print on social media sites that their children join, so they are aware of the information that brands and other third parties can gain access to.

Parental Control Apps To Track Your Kids’ Locations & More

If you are the parent of a teenager, you probably want to know where they go when they are not at home. You may have heard of physical GPS tracking devices that are commonly used, but why go through the trouble and expense of buying that equipment when you can get the information you want using mobile Apps? Apps like Kidgy.com give parents the control they want to monitor their kids and make sure they are safe. Using the Kidgy App, parents can easily track their child using GPS through their smartphone.

Life360

Life360 is available for iPhone and Android devices and keeps millions of families and close friends connected, no matter what chaos life throws their way. Organize your family, friends, caregivers and more easily with circles. Add favorite locations like school, work, home and more and receive alerts when circle members arrive at or depart from them. Message the entire circle at once or privately, eliminating the need for endless texts and calls.

Life360’s free version allows you to set up 2 places and keeps location history for 2 days. The PLUS version gives users full access and maintains location history for 30 days. The cost of Life360 PLUS is just $24.99 a year.

My Family GPS tracker

My Family is another good family tracking App. Unlike Life360, My Family is available for Windows and Amazon powered devices in addition to android and iOS devices. This App has premium features like the ability to save location history for up to 3 years. My Family also allows parents to make force calls to their kids that cannot be ignored. While this may seem intrusive, sometimes parents need to be, when it comes to the safety of their kids.

My Family also has an emergency button that notifies parents if their child comes across some type of trouble or leaves or enters a certain location. The user interface for My Family is user-friendly, so operating the App is simple. Best of all, My Family is free to use for android, iOS, amazon and windows users.

ZoeMob Family Locator

Finally, ZoeMob Family Locator is another useful App for keeping track of your kids’ location. Think of it as a family assistant because it is more than just a family locator. With additional features like calendars, shared lists, built-in messengers and more, it helps you to keep everyone connected.

Despite all the add-ons, this App is simple to use to keep track of your family members, set driving speed limits, program it to receive notifications for certain locations and so much more. The free version of ZoeMob is available for both android and iOS and can be accessed through the product website.

How I Keep My Little Athletes Hydrated #Switch2BODYARMOR #BringIt

This post is sponsored by BODYARMOR. As always my words and views are 100% my own.

As a parent of active kids, I know how important it is for them to stay hydrated. My kids play sports year round,so I don’t want them guzzling down sugary sports drinks. I want something healthier for them and I found that with BODYARMOR. BODYARMOR is a premium sports drink that is packed with potassium, electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins. BODYARMOR has everything I want to replenish their bodies and none of the artificial flavors and sweeteners I don’t want.

Right now, they are playing baseball and they love it. They practice all the time at home between their team practices and games. I like to keep my refrigerator stocked with BODYARMOR because they come in sweaty, hot and thirsty. I also pack a cooler full of it when we go to practices and games. It comes in great flavors that my kids like. My one son’s favorite flavor is lemonade. I like drinking BODYARMOR too, it is perfect after my workouts, walks or gardening. It provides us all with superior hydration and great taste.

We live on a lake and with summer coming, swimming is what we do all day, every day! When we go down to our dock,, my kids don’t want to go back up to the house for anything, so I have to pack snacks and drinks to keep us going all day. That is where BODYARMOR comes into play, swimming in the sun, we need to stay hydrated. A cooler full of BODYARMOR is our best friend. Beyond that some wholesome granola bars are a great pairing and keep the kids full of energy until dinner.

BODYARMOR launched two new products this year, BODYARMOR LYTE and BODYARMOR Water. BODYARMOR LYTE is naturally sweetened and has only 20 calories per serving. BODYARMOR Water is a sports water designed by athletes for athletes.

Do you have little athletes like mine? If so, check out how your child could become the next BODYARMOR Athlete.  Here in New York, you can find BODYARMOR at Stop & Shop, Shop Rite, BJ’s, Wegmans and Price Chopper. You can follow BODYARMOR on Facebook and Twitter  to stay in the loop with them. You can get a coupon to save on your next purchase of BODYARMOR by clicking HERE.

The Easy Way To Eliminate Funky Odors #FunkAway

This is a sponsored post with FunkAway and BraVoMark. As always my words and views are 100% my own.

If you are a parent, you probably are well acquainted with funky odors. Funky odors and kids seem to go hand in hand. The more active our kids are, the more funky smells we will experience.

You know the smell I mean, the nasty odors that come from your kids sports equipment, helmets, sneakers and more. It’s gross and stinky but what can you do about it?

I found a solution with FunkAway, it works to eliminate odors on anything you can’t wash right away or thing that typically don’t get laundered like helmets, gloves and more.

Best of all, it is not a fragrance that just disguises the odors with a heavy-scented perfume. FunkAway works differently using a unique, patented compound called OM Complex that attacks the horrid smell created by play and hard work. OM Complex absorbs and breaks down the odor, eliminating it for good.

FunkAway spray comes in two different sizes so you can have one with you whenever you need it.

  • The Traveler, the 3.4 fl. oz. odor eliminating spray, which provides portability and convenience at arm’s reach
  • The Heavyweight, the 13.5 fl. oz. odor eliminating spray, which features an aerosol delivery system that offers maximum uniformity of coverage and ease of use

Keep The Traveler in your gym bag, purse, glove box or locker. The Heavyweight is perfect to keep home for treating all kind of funky stuff. There is also a laundry booster for any funky stuff that needs the 1,2, punch. Laundry booster attacks the toughest stains and odors.

How To Use FunkAway:

It is simple to use FunkAway, all you need to do is spray anything that you sweat in like your athletic gear, work equipment, shoes, sneakers and helmets right after use and allow to dry. That’s it, spray it, let it dry, no more stinky stuff! It is so versatile, you can use it on just about anything! Keep the kids, lose the funk.

My Thoughts

I love the different sizes that the spray comes in. The smaller bottle is perfect for travel, in my car, gym bag or to keep at the office or in a locker. The large bottle is perfect to keep in the laundry room, garage, home gym or anywhere you store your sports equipment or other funky items. It has a pleasant, almost baby powder, fresh smell. It is easy to use and when dry, the funky smell is gone. It starts to work as soon as I spray it, and keeps working while it dries. If you have funky odors, try FunkAway.

Humor, Heart, Loss, Triumph, Friendship, Family, and Love Come Together on the Pages of “LEMONS”– #Giveaway

I am sure you are probably familiar with the saying; “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” That is the something that 9-year old Lemonade Liberty Witt’s mama always told her. While Lem would like to do just that, it seems impossible that she could ever make lemonade out of moving to Willow Creek, California.

Willow Creek is a tiny town filled with tall pines instead of skyscrapers, and a Bigfoot lurking in the woods. Lem wanted to stay in San Francisco after her mama died with her friends, school and everything she loved. Instead, she was forced to go and live with the grandfather she never even met.

Things seem pretty bad but then Lem meets 11-year-old Tobin Sky, the CEO of Bigfoot Detectives Inc., who is the sole Bigfoot investigator for their small town. After he invites Lem to be his assistant for the summer, the two set out on an epic adventure to capture the elusive creature on film.

In the end, Lem and Tobin’s big discovery ends up being more earth-shattering than they ever dreamed. Best of all, Lem learns that maybe she can make lemonade out of her new life after all.

Humor, heart, loss, triumph, friendship, family, and love all come together to create the pages of LEMONS.

 About The Author:

This book is written by debut author Melissa Savage, a writer and a child and family therapist. This is a classic middle grade novel in the vein of Kate DiCamillo, Rebecca Stead, and Patricia Reilly Giff. Her desire to write purposeful, issue-driven books for young people, coupled with her interest in cryptozoology and the mystery of Bigfoot, inspired her to write Lemons. Set during the summer of 1975 in California, this is one of those novels that you want to immediately read again after finishing. Savage wrote LEMONS partly to overcome her own grief after losing her son at the age of 9 months in 2012.

The Tobin character in the book is named after her own son because she wanted him to remain a part of this world. The character Tobin is what she imagined her son would grow up to be. Stoic and brave, as he was, but also scientific like his dad and as big a fan of Bigfoot and cryptozoology as his mommy! Melissa knows that losing someone you love is an extremely tough lemon, as Lem experiences in the story and she struggles with how to make lemonade again.  For Melissa sharing her son’s name and spirit with children all over the world is one of the ways she has learned to make her own lemonade. You can read an excerpt HERE.

When asked what she hopes readers take away with them after reading Lemons, Melissa answered, “Hope, first and foremost.” She wants them to know that there is hope and healing in the world, even after dealing with tough lemons, if you choose it and surround yourself with gratitude and people who love you. She also hopes that readers will take away a renewed acceptance of those who are different from them. Lastly, she adds, ” A newfound interest in cryptozoology!” You can learn more about Melissa HERE.

Discover The “Once Upon A Time Bible” and “Storybook Bible” Today #OnceUponATimeBible, #FlyBy

It seems everyone is talking about how they loved Disney’s new Beauty and the Beast live action movie. Fairy tales and Disney Animation are more popular than ever and Zonderkidz wanted to publish a storybook Bible and full-text Bible that would resonate with families and children who love this type of media.

Teaching our kids about the stories in the Bible is easier when the stories are in a format that they are used to, using language they understand. Unlike fairy tales, the stories in these books are the real deal! What a great way to teach my children about real heroes and stories of faith straight from God’s word.

The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible features captivating illustrations along with a beautiful narrative that draws children in as you read aloud the major stories of the Bible. Stories include: Ruth, Abigail, Esther, The Parable of the Lost Sheep, The Prodigal Son, Mary Magdalene and many more. The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible is available at Sam’s Club and where books are sold.

The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible starts the way every great story does, with once upon a time. However this hardcover Bible is not full of fairy tales. This New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) translation highlights 6 stories we all know from the Bible and presents them in a way children can relate to and understand.

Each story is told on four pages in full-color, illustrated splendor. Stories include: God Makes Man and Woman, Isaac and Rebekah, Ruth Find Happiness, Queen Esther, Mary and Joseph and an Angel and He Lives! The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible is available in hardcover and pink leathersoft cover where books are sold.

Let me know what you think of these versions of the greatest story ever told!
