I was absolutely ecstatic when Tamron contacted me to do a review on their AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens. My Canon 60D is more like an extension of my arm. Rarely, am I anywhere without my camera. Most of the time I shoot with a 17-55mm, and zooming requires me to change to my 55-250 mm. This is good, but not great when you are on the beach and don’t want to chance changing lenses with blowing sand and surf. On our recent vacation, this was a huge hassle, because I either had to chance changing the lens or try to make it work with one or the other. Now with this Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens, I am able to have the best of both worlds in one lens.
One instance where this lens would have been great, was last year. My friend and I were on a walk and saw a black bear that was down the road. My Canon 17-55 mm could not make him more than a black blob in the distance. This lens would have been perfect. I took it out today and was very impressed with the lens. First it is light, which is great because I usually walk with my camera. I love the range, it really can’t be beat. The images are sharp, crisp and well focused. I would not use it as my portrait lens in my studio but as an all around lens, I am very impressed. I cannot wait to really put this lens through the paces. I look forward to the ability to capture images that would have required me to change lenses. If you are looking for a great all-purpose lens that will go the distance, then you should try the Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens . The auto focus works great and the vibration compensation mechanism is flawless. Compatible mounts are Nikon, Canon and Sony.

The Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon is a 15x high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 28-419mm in 35mm format. Designed as an “all-in-one” lens, it will meet almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The addition of PZD (Piezo Drive) ultrasonic autofocus motor helps make this lens lighter, short and slimmer than any previous lens in this category, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.
The VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism allows the use of shutter speeds that are much slower than otherwise possible, with no perceptible increase in image blur. It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting a moving object. This feature is a must in a lens with this longer range of focal length. This lens will focus down to 19.3″ (0.49 m) throughout the zoom range.
This lens is designed exclusively for DSLR cameras with smaller-size sensors. It is NOT compatible with 35mm film cameras and DSLR cameras with image sensors larger than 24 x 16mm.

- Design has been improved by adding a gold-colored band between the focus and zoom rings to enhance the appearance and make it stand out as a Di II lens. The rubber patterns of the zoom and focus control rings have been improved at the same time to compliment the digital camera design style and to provide better handling.

I would love this lens!! Having 2 boys that do a lot of activites and traveling a lot, I’m always taking pictures!! I can’t tell you how many times I miss a good shot because I don’t have the right lens on. I’m always switching back and forth between my two lens and it makes me crazy. This lens has it all in one. It would be great. I’m also attemping to start my own photography business so this would be great to have.

Mandatory Entry: Wow, this lens is amazing! We have had our eye on the Tamron lenses for awhile, but have been unable to afford one. Our Canon would be so happy to have this lens. The vibration compensation would be of special help to my husband who as a wounded warrior does have some shaking. We enjoy taking photos of our children, family and the Arizona landscape. Photography is a hobby for my husband especially, it is especially therapudic for him. His Doctors at the VA agree. He would just love having this lens and I know that he would be elated if we were to be fortunate enough to be drawn for it. I would love this for our Nikon Camera. I can’t get the great shots I want of our boys playing sports with the current lens we have. A great quality lens like this with the 270mm zoom would be great for those distant shots. It doesn’t get much better then that!!

I’m dying to get my hands on this new version of the 18-270! I’ve got the older version and I see a problem with sharpness of photos as well as size and weight. I can’t begin to tell you how many shots I’ve seen through the lens that ended being just so-so due to the sharpness factor. 🙁

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to have this lens. It would help so much in getting better shots of my kids as they play. They are always running around and you never know when they’re going to be down the road or right next to you. It would be wonderful to be able to use 1 lens and have the capacity to take a shot while they are standing 15 ft away or 200 ft away.

I use the tamron 17-55 as my walk around lens. Just picked up the 70-300. This review makes me think this is the lens for me!

I’m a FB follower!
Currently I use a 28-70mm Canon lens that is 20+ years old as my main everyday lens. I also have a 75-300 new lens that I can swap out. I am attempting to save up for a macro lens, but this would save me a lot of swapping around and missed shots. I am not a professional photographer, heck, I only recently picked up a camera for the first time in 20 years. But I am enjoying not only the the art of Photography, but the fellowship meeting and interacting with other photographers via local clubs.
I’ve been using the original version of the Tamron 18-270 for some time now, and have loved it! It’s been on my camera at least 90% of the time, and I’ve made over 7,600 exposures with it. Now, I’m transitioning to another camera brand (Sony), and I really /need/ this lens again in my lineup!
I love tamron lenses and this zoom would take my photography to another level! I ‘liked’ mommy ramblings on facebook, too.

I am always looking for reviews on great glass! I have been saving my pennies and am about ready to purchase a new lens. This would be a great lens for photographing my children’s sporting evens and school events. The zoom range looks great! Hope it’s my lucky day:)
I just sent a daughter off to college, so all my photo wish list items are now on hold for four years! And, my autofocus on my Canon 28-135 just started to fail, so I’m manually focusing everything with that lens.

I would love to have this lens. I recently upgraded my camera but am still using my old lens. It would help me be able to utilize just one lens rather than two as I take the majority of my photos out in the wind and dirt of the ranch.

Well I could tell you this lense would mean the world to me because I can not afford it but I will save you the sob story. I have a Tameron 17-55mm Lense currently and absolutely love it! I have always been impressed with Tameron Lenses. This lense would definitely help me out when I am in the field taking pictures of wildlife since i can not always sneak up on some animals. I have been very lucky sneaking up on some animals but coming so close to deer during rutting season can be dangerous and I have been chased. So the best benefit of having this lense for me would be keeping me safe.

I find myself wanting to intermix close-up shots with distance shots but find it a pain to change lenses too often so I take one kind of shot, change the lens and take the other kind making me miss some great shots. Having a lens with 18-270mm range would allow me to get all those shots with one lens.

I do a lot of military homecoming photo shoot so this lense would make it easier for me to shoot from the time they get off of the bus to the time they are in their loved ones arms without me having to miss precisous moment changing lenses.
