Ollie & Bess Swing Dress Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I recently had the opportunity to choose an outfit from Ollie & Bess to review. I chose the adorable little swing dress with an orange and white circle pattern and navy ribbons! The style of this dress is so cute on little girls, and the colors are vibrant, I love the pattern! My little niece was the model for this dress and she looks absolutely adorable in it! I love how the straps are adjustable, so it fits her now, and will still fit her when she gets a little bigger! The fabric feels sturdy and should hold up nicely to her playing, and if she gets it dirty, it doesn‘t require anything more special than a cold water wash in the machine!!
Ollie and Bess Apparel was created by a mom who had a hard time finding traditional quality clothing for her daughter. All their material is hand-picked and made in the USA! They have a great line of high quality, classic children’s wear for both girls and boys. You also have the option to have your purchase monogrammed!
I am very pleased to let you know that Ollie & Bess is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win the outfit of their choice (subject to availability).  Thank you Ollie & Bess for the review dress and for sponsoring such an adorable give-away on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US Residents.

Circle of Friends, Lice Defense Family Kit Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I know the topic of lice is gross.  We never want our kids to get them.  We all know the feeling, your child comes home with a letter from the school nurse telling parents that lice is going around.  They give you some info, and just thinking about it, you start to itch.  Thankfully, I have never had to deal with my children getting lice and I hope I never will.  Circle of Friends has some great products to help keep things that way.  I was recently sent their Lice Defense Family Kit which includes, shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and styling gel.  These great products help keep lice and other insects from your child’s hair and scalp naturally with their unique blend of Tea Tree, Andiroba and Lavender oils. They also added Vitamin B-5 and glycerin to hydrate and soften your child’s hair.

Keeping the Bugs at Bay
When it comes to head lice the solution is usually focused on harsh, unpleasant treatments that
must be administered to children after the lice come home. But Circle of Friends is shifting the
focus to prevention. After all – isn’t preventing lice in the first place the most desirable option?
Introducing Lice Defense Shampoo and Leave-in Conditioner, a powerful – yet gentle duo that
deters lice naturally, leaving little noggins squeaky clean and insect free.
Tea Tree, Andiroba and Lavender Oils are the key ingredients that keep lice way safely and
naturally. Lemon Peel Oil acts as a natural cleanser, while Vitamin B-5 and Glycerin hydrate the
hair leaving it soft, manageable and free of tangles. And unlike those harsh, stinky and irritating
chemical treatments, with Lice Defense parents and children will actually enjoy bath time thanks
to its kid-pleasing lavender scent.

Usage
Use Lice Defense Shampoo several times a week when an outbreak of lice has been discovered in
your community until the outbreak is under control. It is gentle enough to use daily if preferred.
Spray Leave-in Conditioner on hair (wet or dry) each morning. The fine mist will coat the hair and
provide an extra lice deterrent. Lice do not like hair that has product on it, especially when that
product is infused with tea tree oil!

Did you know?
1. Back-to-school is when head lice are most commonly transmitted.
Failure of inspection and prevention in August to November can lead to
widespread infestations by December and January (University of
Florida).
2. There are 6 to 12 million cases of head lice in the United States
yearly, with an estimated 12 to 24 million days of missed school
(Medscape Medical News, 2006).
3. Treatment costs may vary from $20 for over the counter products
like RID Shampoo, to $200+ for a lice removal service.

Lice Facts
1. Lice are most often spread at schools, child care centers, slumber parties, camps, little
leagues (shared batting helmets) and playgrounds.
2. Children should avoid head-to-head contact with other children and should not share
hairbrushes, combs, hats, helmets, pillows, sleeping bags, etc.
3. Lice live exclusively on humans; they cannot be transferred to pets or vice versa.
4. Lice are not a sign of poor hygiene — they can be a problem for children of all ages and
socioeconomic status.

Keep Lice Defense on hand so that you are prepared when news spreads of a lice outbreak
in your community!

I am happy to let you know that Circle of Friends is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win a lice defense bottle of shampoo and conditioner.  Thank you Circle of Friends for the review kit and for sponsoring this great give-away on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US Residents.

Lay-n-Go Luggage Review and Lay-n-Go Lite Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

As a busy mom, I am all about products that can make life easier for families.  How many times have you stepped on a loose Lego brick or Hot Wheels car?  If you are like me, more times than you care to count.  I was sent a Lay-n-Go Luggage to review and I have to tell you about this great product.  We tested this baby out and it passed with flying colors.  We opened it up, and the kids went around getting their cars, trucks, trains, and other rolling vehicles.  We placed them on the mat and let the kids play for a good long time.  Then, I was able to just pull the drawstring and get it all into a nice bag with a seat belt type strap that I could sling over my shoulder.  I can easily hang the bag up until the next time they want to play or it is great to transport when your child goes visiting.  It is so easy and it did pass the shake test.  This product definitely gets 2 thumbs up from Mommy Ramblings!!!  Watch videos of the Lay n Go in action, here.

Lay-n-Go Luggage (patent pending) is a 5 foot diameter activity mat that converts into an easily transportable shoulder satchel allowing for quick and effortless clean-up of small toy pieces.  Toy collections used on the Lay-n-Go surface are easily spread out (no dumping needed) for hours of fun. Once playtime is over, the drawstring is pulled and the activity mat is converted back into a completely sealed soft storage bag.  Lay-n-Go Luggage is a smart and easy activity mat, cleanup, storage and carry-all solution in one.

  • Outside fabrc is 100% denim to last for generations
  • Playside fabric is 100% nylon which is confortable to play on for hours yet provides a tough and water repellent wipeable surface
  • Available with blue or pink nylon
  • Four clear 7”x 6” pockets on the playside surface provide a great way to stash and organize the most valued mini-figures or extra special pieces
  • Durable nylon cord and cord lock provide an easy opening and closing system which keeps toys securely inside
  • A velcroed front storage pocket provides a place to stow the drawstring when closing or carrying the bag
  • Wide nylon shoulder strap adds both comfort and convienience for carrying

“The Organic Family Cookbook” by Anni Daulter, Review & Give-Away!!! 2 Winners!!! {Give-Away Ended}

You may remember, this Summer we reviewed a book about healthy ice pops called, “Ice Pop Joy,” by Anni Daulter.  I was recently sent, Anni’s new cookbook, “The Organic Family Cookbook” to review.  This book is all about growing, greening and cooking together.

Anni Daulter believes that eating organic, fresh, nutritional foods are the key to good health, and that raising children to understand and appreciate this is the key to creating a healthy and happy family.

“When we decide to cook fresh, from‐scratch foods, it does take some time and thoughtful planning, but when you sit down to that meal cooked with such love and care, it makes it all worth it,” said Daulter. “The in‐between moments with our families — cooking, creating, and being together — make up the goodness of life, and nothing tastes better than that!”

The recipes in The Organic Family Cookbook, are wholesome, fun, and kid and family tested, and use ingredients easily obtainable from standard grocers, green markets or a personal garden.

“Anni understands how to cook and share a good meal with those she cares about. She knows that at the heart of a healthy family there is a strong relationship to unadulterated ingredients that come straight from the earth, whether it be from your own garden, farmers’ market, or natural food store,” said Anna Getty, founder of Pregnancy Awareness Month, and an author, cook, educator, and mother.

The book is divided into sections, based on the type of meal or snack the recipes create. These include:

  • Naturally Tasty Breakfasts (to start each day off well)
  • Simple Snacks (a necessity for every active family)
  • Wholesome Lunches (to pack or enjoy at home)
  • Savory Sides (tasty, healthy additions to any meal)
  • Family Favorite Dinners (for everyday meals and special occasions)
  • Homespun Favorites (with homemade staples no one can resist)
  • Table of Equivalents

Included in each chapter are sidebars offering tips about the way her family puts these principles into practice, and include everything from starting a garden to grow your own food to tips on turning a kitchen green to making your own, chemical‐free cleaning products. Other sidebars suggest activities the family can do together, alternatives to plastic bags and dishware, recycling tips and much more.

“As inspiring as it is practical, Anni Daulter’s The Organic Family Cookbook combines delicious, healthy recipes for any day of the week with gorgeous photography,” said Pilar Guzman, Editor‐In‐Chief of Martha Stewart Living and co‐founder of Momfilter.com. “It’s also very personal, offering a glimpse into one family’s beautiful — yet relatable — life with food.”

Anni Daulter is an eco‐mama, professional cook, advocate for sustainable living, and author. Anni is the co‐founder of a conscious family living magazine called Bamboo, and is author of Ice Pop Joy andOrganically Raised: Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers. Anni lives in Los Angeles, California with her family

My Views:

I love gardening, growing things with my family.  It is so wonderful to see the little ones learn how food grows.  My kids love to garden with us. This book is great because it is not just a cookbook, it is a way of life, and it is a way of life that our family cherishes.  I am a huge VitaMixer and we love fruit and veggies.  I normally add things such as ground flax-seed to our green smoothies so I was glad to find it used in so many of her recipes.  Having four very ripe bananas, I decided the first recipe I would try would be the Goodwill Banana Bread.

Goodwill Banana Bread

2 cups of whole wheat pastry flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons flax-seed

2 teaspoons wheat germ

2 pinches sea salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup raw agave nectar

1/2 cup pure cane sugar

2 eggs beaten

4 overripe bananas mashed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 5 x 9 inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, flax-seed, wheat germ, salt and walnuts.

In another bowl, mix together butter, agave nectar, and sugar.  Stir in eggs and bananas until blended.

Combine banana mixture into flour mixture and stir just until mixed.  Pour batter into greased loaf pan.  Bake for about 1 hour, until edges are golden brown an inserted toothpick in the center comes out clean.  Let cool before removing from pan.

Makes 1 loaf

I used ground flax-seed and substituted honey for the agave nectar.  It came out so great, it was really moist and delicious.  I will definitely be using this as our banana bread recipe from now on.

I can’t wait to try the Nurturing Butternut Squash Soup with Parmesan Crisps using the butternut squash we grew in our garden.  I am definitely trying the Fall Pumpkin Spiced Cookies as well, we love making cookies with pumpkin in the Fall.  I highly recommend this cookbook and it has a wealth of information about different flours, kids composting, veggie dyed eggs for Easter and much more.

I am thrilled to let you all know that Sellers Publishing and Anni Daulter are sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  2 lucky blog readers will win their own copy of  “The Organic Family Cookbook.”  Thank you Sellers Publishing and Anni Daulter for the review cookbook and for sponsoring this great give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  Open to US and Canadian Residents.

DoodleMark Bookmark And Drawing Pad Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

The DoodleMark is a new kind of bookmark that allows kids and parents to interact with books together, like never before. Whether practicing sight words together, working on vocabulary, drawing letters, bookmarking their progress or just doodling a funny picture – its all about creative learning and having fun.

Kids love to clip a DoodleMark to any book and let their creativity run free. And parents understand the true value of learning to read and write with something that is useful, simple and powered only by a kid’s own imagination.

I was recently asked to select a DoodleMark to review.  I chose the Wild Racer design and it is so cute.  The little red race car on the top erases the drawing pad.  This is really a great idea for kids and can be used when reading with a parent, practicing spelling or working on sight words.  Would make a great stocking stuffer, as Christmas will be here before we know it.  Great to use on trips and when out to eat along with a favorite book.  You can watch a video here to see how it works.

I am happy to let you all know, that DoodleMark is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win the a DoodleMark in their choice of design.  Thank you DoodleMark for review product and for sponsoring this great give-away.  Open to US and Canadian Residents.

Snappi Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

One of the options for cloth diapering is to use regular old fashioned diapers, called prefolds. This is one of the most cost effective cloth diapering systems, and many people swear by it! One issue I’ve had with the prefolds, is that I don’t like using diaper pins. I get nervous that they will poke my baby’s tender tummy, and I worry about the pins rusting. Well I was recently sent this interesting little doodad called a Snappi from Snappi Baby, that has made using prefolds much easier! The Snappi is a small, stretchy, T shaped diaper fastener. It has small claws at each end that hook into the edges of the diaper fabric and holds it all together, ensuring a snug-fitting diaper. No more struggling with poky pins on a wiggly baby! The Snappi  works not just on prefolds, but on other fabrics, so it can be used for fitted diapers as well. I like that the Snappi is so easy to use, I can just fasten the diaper together, and it takes so much less time than using pins!  This unique product was invented by a father who experienced frustration changing his own child’s diapers. A snap solution to easier cloth diapering!

The benefits of this fastener include:

  • SAFER THAN PINS – no more pinpricks for baby or parent!!
  • RELIABLE – a snug fitting diaper to prevent those dreaded leaks
  • DURABLE – no snaps that can become brittle/rust, nor any velcro to catch all the lint in the wash!!  At least if your Snappi® fastener needs to be replaced, your expensive diaper is not wasted!!
  • ECONOMICAL – affordable fastener that works very well with the less expensive flat, prefold or contour cloth diapers
  • EASY to use – allows first time parents, grandparents and people with arthritic problems to cloth diaper with ease.   It is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3

I am pleased to tell you that Snappi is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings. One lucky reader will win their own Snappi diaper fastener! Thank you Snappi for the review Snappi and for sponsoring this great give-away!!  Open to US Residents.

Mudpuppy Decorative Wall Clock Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I was recently asked to pick something from Mudpuppy to review.  I chose the Sports Theme, Decorative Wall Clock for Ethan’s sports themed room.  This is such a delightful clock that is super easy to hang and brighten up any room. Requires 1 AA battery and has a 9-1/2″ diameter.  There are lots of other great styles and they are not just for kids.  The clocks are phthalate free and printed with nontoxic inks.  The clock works well and my son loves it.  There are other great styles like owls, robots, pirates, butterflies and more.

I am happy to let you know that Mudpuppy is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One luck blog reader will be able to choose a decorative wall clock from the Mudpuppy Website.  Thank you Mudpuppy for the sports clock and for sponsoring this timely give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  Open to US and Canadian residents.

Smart Planet Collapsible Large and Small Lunch Box Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Description: new smart planet logo (2)

I was recently contacted by Smart Planet to do a review of their collapsible lunch boxes.  They sent me out a large and a small to review.  They each come with a two-sided utensil that stores neatly in the lid.  Everything is dishwasher safe which I love and these great boxes are made of silicone and collapse to become flat and compact for easy storage.  The large lunchbox has a large compartment and two smaller compartments.  The compartments are deep and hold a lot.  The small lunch box has one large compartment that is also deep.  The boxes are microwave safe for reheating.  They are very well made and it is as easy as they say to collapse them and open them up.  Even after running them through the dishwasher, the lids fit fine.  They come in assorted colors and really make lunch fun.  BPA free and FDA compliant materials used throughout.  They can be purchased on Amazon.com.

I am pleased to announce that Smart Planet is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win a large and a small lunchbox.  Thank you Smart Planet for the review lunch boxes and for sponsoring such a smart give-away on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US residents.
