Moist, Delicious,Blueberry Pound Cake Recipe!!!

Blueberry-Pound-Cake-bpk

The blueberries in New York State are abundant and ready for picking. We went out to pick our first batch a couple of weekends ago.  There are so many ripe berries and so many that are ripening now, that I plan on making lots of blueberry recipes.

Our first batch went to make a delicious, moist blueberry pound cake. This pound cake is so easy to prepare and you just layer the batter and the berry, cinnamon, sugar mixture, cover with the batter and repeat the whole process.

Make These Easy Easter Cupcakes & Learn How To Bake Eggs For Coloring!!!

If you are looking for an easy, festive treat to make for Easter, you still have plenty of time to make these adorable cupcakes.

Cupcakes Easter 2

Just make your favorite flavor cupcakes and then get your frosting ready.  I use my own buttercream but you can use canned if you do not like to make your own.

Cupcakes Easter 1

Get a decorating bag ready and use  a Wilton Multi-Opening Decorating Tip 233.  Tint your frosting green with Wilton Gel Coloring or you can use liquid food coloring if you want.  Then just squeeze and pull up to create grass.

Easter Eve 8_edited-1

In the grass you can put a PEEPS bunny or chick, little M & M eggs,  Robin’s Eggs, Jelly Beans, or chocolate covered almonds.  You can also use some white buttercream and make little nests with an open crown tip and fill with candy eggs.  You can sprinkle the nests with sugar decor to make them sparkle or coconut flakes.

Another great tip I got from a friend is to bake your eggs instead of boiling for coloring. You just put your eggs in a muffin tin and bake at 325 degrees for exactly 25 minutes. Do not over bake!  You will get great eggs with no cracks!  I tried it and love it!

“Holiday Crafting & Baking With Kids” by Jessica Strand Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Chronicle Books

‘Tis the Season for crafting and baking with your kids!!!  I recently received “Holiday Crafting & Baking With Kids to review.  This book by Jessica Strand is full of all kinds of crafts and baking for the holidays.  Children ages four and up will love selecting their own materials and digging into these cheerful projects. There is something here for everyone and every winter occasion—Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Year’s, and Boxing Day! Step-by-step instructions, helpful templates, and color photos make it a cinch for little ones to follow along. Best of all, the materials and ingredients for these projects are inexpensive, easy to find, and even easier to turn into amazing gifts, decorations, and treats.

One of the first crafts we decided to try was the shimmering snowflakes.  The directions were straightforward and you could improvise on them creating larger or smaller snowflakes.  I really like that since snowflakes are unique, that this did not have to be a “perfect” craft.  You can definitely let your kids add their own spin on them through colors, size or shape.  This is a very fun craft to do together.  It may be harder for 4 and 5 year-olds to do unassisted since there is a bit of intricate twisting but I think it is great for older kids.  When you are finished you can hang them up around the house and you have a festive start to your holiday decorations.

Chronicle Books is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win their own copy of “Holiday Crafting & Baking With Kids.” Thank you Chronicle Books for the review book and for sponsoring this great give-away on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US residents.

Do You Bake? Review & Give-Away!!!

Do You Bake? is a great company that makes an extensive line of simple yet delicious beer breads, scones, biscuits, brownies, seasonings and dip mixes, with new items being developed constantly. You can also keep your dogs happy with their all natural healthy dog treats that are so simple to make you’ll love making them all the time for a happy canine pal. All  Do You Bake? products  are 100% natural. Each and every one of their products is hand-packed. Their ingredients are locally sourced, fresh and oh so yummy!

I was recently sent an assortment of Do You Bake? products to review.  I received the Classic Beer Bread Mix, Chocolate Peanut Butter Squares Mix, Garden Vegetable Dill Cheese Ball Mix, Chicken Tortilla Soup Mix, Tuscany Oil Seasoning Blend and the Sweet ‘N’ Spicy Pecan Date Cheese Ball Mix.

One of the first things I tried was the Chicken Tortilla Soup Mix.  I had a bunch of chicken breast that was just cooked so it was perfect to cut in cubes and add to the soup.  It was super easy to prepare and it tasted great with a kick of spicy.

Next, I made the Classic Beer Bread.  We used root beer and it turned out great.  It could not have been easier to prepare.  All you need to do is empty the contents in a bowl and mix with 12 oz of beer or your choice of carbonated beverage.  Then you just stir unitil mixed and pour into a greased loaf dish.  You pour some melted butter over the top and bake until golden brown.  It came out great!!!

If you are looking for some great shortcuts this Holiday Season you should check out the Do You Bake? line of products.  We are adding them to our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide under Products to Help You This Holiday Season.

Kimber Cakeware Batter Daddy Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Those of you that follow Mommy Ramblings should remember that we did a review and give-away of Kimber Cakeware Batter Babies a few months back.  Well, we are reviewing the Kimber Cakeware Batter Daddy today.  The Batter Daddy is a batter separater that allows you to create  single cake layers with two or more colors (or flavors). The Batter Daddy is adjustable and made to fit cake pans 8″ to 14″ wide. Works well in 2”, 2.5” and 3” deep pans. It easily fits most beveled-sided pans, and can be inverted to fit most square pans. The Batter Daddy also fits many shaped pans (round, heart, oval, etc.). It is made from a foodgrade plastic, and is dishwasher safe.

I made a round two layer cake with one layer half hot pink and half yellow.  The next layer I made a turquoise and yellow.

I have to apologize for my sloppiness because I was working fast and literally slapped the cake together after making my chocolate butter cream.  The good thing is, if my results turned out like this in a hurry while I was on the phone and doing 3 other things, then you can achieve really nice results if you are not multi-tasking like a crazy fool.

Kimber Cakeware is being gracious enough to sponsor another give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  They are sponsoring a give-away for 3 lucky Mommy Rambling’s Followers.  These 3 lucky winners will receive their very  own Batter Daddy.  Would you like a chance to win one of the Batter Daddies?  If so, just follow the rules below and good luck!!!  Open to US and Canadian Residents.

Mandatory Entry-Tell me in a comment here if you win what colors/flavors you would like to bake first. (This entry must be done or all others will not count and be deleted).

The Tractor Cake!!!

Ethan’s tractor cake was a big hit.  Such a big hit, he did not want to cut it but wanted to play with the tractors on top of it.   It was delicious too filled with a vanilla buttercream and iced with a decadent chocolate buttercream and then decorated with crushed oreos and green buttercream icing with a grass tip.  It went very fast and was a lot of fun.   Here are some pictures.  If you have any questions, ask away!!!
