Buckalope Elementary, “Career Day” DVD Review & Give-Away!!! 3 Winners!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I was recently sent the pilot episode of new educational puppet series for kids ages 5-10.  Buckalope Elementary, explores different aspects of character building, and each episode presents a different character trait, with the overall intention of giving kids a set of tools that will help motivate, coach, and guide them early on as they begin their educational journey.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVXnCN1kkNA&feature=youtu.be]

The Buckalope Elementary, “Career Day” episode introduces the program’s environment and its characters.  As an elementary school class (of puppets) explores its own individual career interests and talents they discover not only a whole world of possibilities but a new-found passion for learning.

This very unique, entertaining and educational DVD has three acts:

Act One: The teacher uses an awkward moment when one of the students is late to class to bring up his topic for the day, “Careers.”  As the class explores the meaning of the subject, they all share what they want to be when they all grow up, which we find entails some aspect of fame.  The teacher then decides to sing them a song, to show them “what is all out there.”  By the end of the song, the entire class is excited to learn of all these possibilities, and begins to explore their curiosity on the subject.

Act Two: Takes place at recess, where the kids are all playing on the playground.  As one of the characters displays their basketball talent, another kid reveals her lack of self-esteem and expresses her belief that she “isn’t good at anything.”  All of the other kids gather and try and convince her she “has to have some kind of talent,” through a series of questions and introspect, she realized she does.  Eventually all the kids join in on a song, where they all figure out their own individual talents.

Act Three: The teacher introduces the Magicboard to the class, and uses it to assist the kids in choosing a career for their career day project and presentations.  They all speak their talents and interests to the Magicboard, and it gives them each a list of careers that go with those criteria.  They then dress up and present their careers to the class, and reflect on what they learned from the project.  Finally, the teacher sums up what they learned by singing a song on the value of learning.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlklOxhHusY&feature=youtu.be]

Even though my little ones are younger than the recommended age, they still love this DVD.  The puppets and singing really engages them.  This is really a very educational video and would be great in the classroom as well as the home.

Buckalope Elementary is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  Three lucky blog readers will win their own copy of this DVD.  Thank you Buckalope Elementary for the review DVD and for sponsoring this great give-away!!!  Open to US and Canadian residents.

Glee Gum, Make Your Own Chocolate Kit Review & Give-Away!!!

I was recently asked to pick a kit from Glee Gum to review.  I picked the Make Your Own Chocolate Kit. Inside each Make Your Own Chocolate Kit you’ll find: organic cocoa butter, cocoa powder, confectioner’s sugar, starter crystals, a temperature indicator, paper candy liners, instructions, and the story of chocolate.

This is a great activity to do with your kids and there is a lot of teaching information included.  It even includes 2 cacao beans that you rub between your fingers to remove the shells and everyone can have a taste and your kids can see the beans that chocolate is made from.

You can use the stove or the microwave for the melting and cooking.  We used the microwave and the first step is to melt the cocoa butter for about 3 minutes in the microwave.

The next step is to stir in the cocoa powder and confectioner’s sugar and mix until smooth.

You then put the mixture back in the microwave for 10 seconds only.  Then you attach the thermometer to the bottom of the bowl.  Add 1/4 tsp. of vanilla and stir until the mixture reaches 94 degrees.  Then you add the starter crystals and stir until there are no lumps.  Next, you pour the chocolate in the paper liners.

When you are done filling the liners you put them in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until cold and hardened.  Then remove the liners and enjoy!!!

This kit was a lot of fun for everyone to make together.  The end result was delicious.  Mommy Ramblings thinks this kit from Glee Gum would make a great gift this Holiday season and so we are adding it to our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide.

Glee Gum is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win the candy kit of their choice.  Thank you Glee Gum for the review kit and for sponsoring this yummy give-away on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US residents.

You’ve Been Sentenced! Game & Add-On Decks Review and Give-Away!!!

If you are looking for a super fun family or party game, then you have to check out, “You’ve Been Sentenced!”  I was sent this game with six add-on decks from McNeill Designs to review. Even though it said it was for 3-10 players, my husband and I played it.  It was so much fun.  You start by picking 10 cards each and you then begin using the cards to make grammatically correct sentences that make some kind of sense.  When one person has their sentence done they turn the timer over and everyone else has the remaining time to complete their sentence.  After the timer has run out, you go about comparing your sentences where I guarantee you will be laughing like crazy.  You can challenge your opponents sentence if you think it is not correct.  My husband created the funniest sentences about Annie Oakley eating fake plastic worms and others that just left me shaking my head.  I came up with some contenders myself.  I can just imagine how fun this game will be to play with more people.  The add-on decks just add to the variety and fun.  This is one of our favorite games, it makes you think and it is hilarious. We made some crazy sentences and laughed a lot, the game goes really fast and you will find yourself playing it multiple times in one evening.

Mommy Ramblings thinks this is one of the greatest games and we are adding it to our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide because it would make the perfect Family Gift.  You’ve been Sentenced! has now won 17 awards and is available at Barnes & Noble, Kohl’s and Toys R Us this holiday season.

You’ve Been Sentenced! Game & Add-On Decks Review and Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

You’ve been Sentenced! has now won 17 awards and is available at Barnes & Noble, Kohl’s and Toys R Us this holiday season.

yoomi Self-Warming Baby Bottle Review & Facebook,”Shower Power” Contest!!!

I am very excited to have been asked to review the yoomi bottle.  The yoomi is the first ever self-warming baby bottle.  A bottle and warmer in one, yoomi heats a baby’s feed to the natural temperature of breast milk at the touch of a button – in just 60 seconds!  The unique warming unit is rechargeable up to 100 times without batteries or having to be plugged in.  All pieces including the warmer are able to be sterilized and fully immersed in boiling water.  yoomi has 5 oz and 8 oz bottles with slow, medium and fast nipples available. The bottle is simple to use.  Just fill with breast milk or formula, push the orange button on the warming unit, wait 30 seconds and when the button turns blue put the cap on the nipple, turn the bottle upside down to allow milk to pass over the heating unit and fill the nipple. Then begin feeding your baby.  The milk will only be heated as it passes over the warming unit and into the nipple.  The warming unit will stay on for 60 minutes, allowing you plenty of time per feeding.  Yoomi is great for warming bottles on the go or for those middle of the night feedings.  yoomi is BPA Free and has a natural shaped anti-colic nipple.

In order to recharge the warmer, you have to boil it for 25 minutes and allow it to cool for 75 minutes. The warmer needs to be recharged after each use. This warmer is ideal for parents who plan ahead. It is important to always have your warmer charged before going to sleep or before a long trip. Yoomi is launching a microwavable cover for the warmer in 2012. The warmer can be placed in this microwavable cover and it recharges the warmer in 4 minutes (cutting down the recharge time by 21 minutes). With this piece, the warmer will be ready to use immediately instead of waiting 75 minutes to cool. Also, this cover protects the warmer from being exposed to any radiation. Therefore, it is safe for the baby to use.

 yoomi is launching a Facebook contest called “Shower Power.” In order to enter the contest, an expecting mother must be nominated by a friend or family member. The winner will receive an amazing gift basket with baby essentials that are worth $500. The nominator and nominee must “Like” yoomi’s Facebook page.  This contest ends December 8th and yoomi will be launching a new “Shower Power” contest every quarter.
