Lost Joy

So many thoughts have been running through my head the last few days following the horrific events in Newtown, CT.   20 beautiful, full of life,  first graders savagely killed in their own classrooms along with 6 administrators and teachers.  One of the clergy said something that really struck home, he said “It’s right before Christmas and these families lost their joy.”

As I went through my days after this, I could not help but think about what these families are going through, the what ifs and if onlys, the reminders, the heartbreaking sorrow, their lives forever changed.  The lives of the siblings who had their sister or  brother just ripped from their lives, the youngest ones who may not even be able to understand where their sister or brother is and why they’re not coming home.  The fear this strikes in all of us as parents, the not wanting to send our kids to school or let them out of our sight.  Last weekend when my little ones were opening the wrapped packages of ornaments for the advent tree and begged to do one more, I let them, knowing we are not promised tomorrow and to cherish the moment.

I imagine the heartache the parents  may feel as the wrapped gifts that were hidden for Christmas morning will not be opened.  They will not see the look in their child’s eyes as they open something they were longing for or see the wonder of Christmas through their eyes.  To have to make decisions no parent should have to make, to have the dreams they had for their child extinguished as their grief roars.

Today, as I sat watching Ethan and all the kindergarten classes perform the Nutcracker on stage, it was not the police presence at our rural school, or the heightened security or even the moment of silence we all observed, that struck me the most.  Seeing those precious 5 year olds so full of wonder, so full of life, so vibrant, so innocent and realizing that the actions of one individual took that away from so many families.  The hearts of the nation are breaking  for these families, keep them in your prayers.

BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2 Review and Giveaway!!!

baby_bjorn_logo

The holiday season is upon us and you probably have more family coming to your home now than any other time of the year.  I have a huge family and so it seems like we are either traveling or having guests over.  Whether traveling with a baby or toddler or entertaining family that does, the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2 is such a great product.  This travel crib is so light and comes neatly packed in a carrying case.  It is not cumbersome at all and will take up a very small footprint in your car.  It is so compact when folded and can be stored on top of a closet or under a bed.  Perfect for grandparents to keep for when their grand babies come to spend some time, excellent to keep at a vacation house or even vacation rentals for guests.

This crib could not be easier to set up you simply unzip the case and remove the mattress, then you remove the crib and you simply just shake the legs into the locked position, and put the mattress in.  Folding is just as easy in reverse.  I am really impressed with how light and easy to set up and take down this crib is!  You can purchase this crib from Amazon.com and other online and specialty retailers.

RedEnvelope Unique and Personalized Gifts Review!!!

redenvelopelogo

red-envelope-logo_thumb12

RedEnvelope was launched in 1999, with the mission to make gift giving for every occasion easy and fun.  The name RedEnvelope comes from a firmly held belief in Asian cultures that the color red is an auspicious symbol of happiness. Gifts are often presented in a simple red envelope – a timeless tradition that carries with it well wishes of prosperity, good fortune, appreciation and love.

I recently placed an order with RedEnvelope.  I ordered 2 long sleeve kid’s  States T-Shirts for my 2 little guys and a personalized Christmas Ornament.  I thought the State T-Shirts were so cool.  My five-year old loves to identify states and so having New York featured prominently on the front along with his name and in his favorite color, make this shirt a big hit.  I also ordered one for my three-year old in his favorite color.  The third thing I ordered was a personalized ceramic rectangular Family Christmas ornament which I had personalized with all seven of our names.  This ornament is very nice but the imprinting on the ceramic is at a bit of an angle, it is also a little hard to see the names since they are just imprinted without color so everything is the same color.  Other than that, it hangs from a red ribbon and comes packaged in a red drawstring bag.

You will find so many great gift ideas from RedEnvelope, they really have something for anyone even your pets!

I was provided with a gift code in which to order the items above but my opinions are my own.

Bic Mark-It 36 Piece Fine Point Permanent Marker Set Review & Giveaway!!!

biclogo

Are you extra crafty during the holidays?  Do you like to make gifts that are unique and made with love?  I have been doing a ton of crafts this holiday season.  It is so nice to have the right supplies when you are crafting.  The Bic Mark It 36 Piece Fine Point Permanent Marker Set will help you embellish and create beautiful craft projects.  As a Smiley Circle Blogger, I was sent a Make Your Own Coaster Set which consisted of  a 36 Piece Marker Set, a container of Mod Podge and  4 ceramic tiles.  It was simple to use these markers for some free hand designs that I drew on the tiles. I sealed the finished product using the Mod Podge but I would caution on using that sealer, it tends to cause the colors to run, so I think if you are planning this, perhaps using a spray sealer.  I also plan to cover the bottom of the time with felt so that it will not scratch surfaces, but I think you get an idea of how easy it is to create with these great markers.  You can go to the Bic Mark-It website HERE!

Bixby & Co., Chocolate Bar Creations Review & Giveaway!!!

Bixby & Co., LLC is committed to creating nutritious and natural chocolate products. Our chocolates stress “real foods” that are artisanal as well as natural, and have a flavor that reflects a simpler past but also ventures with zest into the future. The ingredients are all natural or organic, free of genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) and additives. Committed to a better community and world, we source our ingredients from green and fair-trade sources. Our family history of adventure and our personal travels inspire us to create products that contain unique combinations of exotic spices, pure chocolate, healthy nuts and dried fruits.

I was eager to try Bixby chocolate since they are not too far from me in upstate NY.  I was recently sent a variety of bars to sample and they are like nothing I have tried before.  The bars are filled with lots of delicious, healthy ingredients like dried bing cherries, walnuts, Vietnamese Cinnamon, hazelnuts, strawberries and more.  The Heart’s Delight was one of my favorites, this 72% Dark Chocolate bar is filled with strawberries, Ceylon cinnamon, and almonds.  Another one I really liked was the To The Nine’s Chocolart Bar which is made with organic white chocolate, pistachios and almonds; packed with  colorful orange/red Goji berries that are full of powerful antioxidants.  There are so many great bars even some with chipotle in them.  You have to check out their site!

For boys and of course, girls too that like to design  dream cars, the SmartLab Car Design Studio will be a huge hit.  Even though my five-year old is younger than the suggested starting age of 7 for this toy, he was able to still have a lot of fun and was very proud of his car.  The design studio comes with car bodies and then tons of cling on wheels and other car parts kids customize their ride with.  When they have it the way they want, they can put it on the LED light tablet and trace their design, then they can color it in and put the finishing touches on.
