OVERVIEW:  The Jungle Bunch is a delightful movie about a cute and loveable penguin named Maurice, voiced by Golden Globe® and Emmy®-award winner andNew York Times best-selling children’s author John Lithgow, debuting on DVD & Digital Download on May 29, 2012, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The Jungle Bunch movie is the incredible story of how a Penguin’s egg fell off an Antarctic ice floe and somehow ended up in the jungle.  Adopted and raised by an affectionate tigress, Maurice is totally convinced that he is actually a tiger!  He divides his time between hunting, re-painting his stripes and teaching his own adopted son, Junior the Tiger Fish, his own special brand of hunting techniques.  Maurice, Junior and all their jungle buddies form a happy, go-lucky but rather dysfunctional family.

Ping and Pong, two penguins from Maurice’s native Antarctic village, are in search of “The Great Tiger Warrior” to save their village from an oppressive group of walruses. Their search leads them to Maurice’s jungle home, where they tell him of their plight.  Determined to help, Maurice, joined by Fred, a warthog convinced he lives in a musical; Batricia, the only bat afraid of the dark; Miguel, a more than primate gorilla; and Gilbert, a tarsier afraid to leave his limb, form a team and embark on an adventure they will never forget!

We received The Jungle Bunch, The Movie DVD for review and this movie is great fun for the whole family to watch.  My little ones love the hysterical characters like Maurice, the penguin tiger.  His adorable team of misfit jungle friends provide lots of laughs that will tickle the whole family.  There are 26 funny shorts from “Behind the Scenes” of the Jungle for added entertainment.  If you are looking for a fun, family movie this jungle adventure is a perfect choice!!!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone and Thank You to our Veterans Past and Present!!!

Hi Everyone!!!  Sorry I have been slacking with the reviews and giveaways but I will make up for it by working to get a lot on this coming week.  I have some great stuff coming up so please be patient with me.  I have been very busy this weekend enjoying family and doing a lot of yard work.  We have so many projects going on here and the threat of rain is putting quite the damper on our outdoor painting and staining projects.  This afternoon I went and picked up all the plants for the garden.  Multiple kinds of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, snap peas, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, pumpkins, butternut squash, Italian parsley, sweet basil, cilantro, rosemary, Greek oregano, lots of perennials to add to our flower beds, seeds for radishes, and I think that is about it.  I have tons of spearmint, peppermint and lemon balm as they come up every year and lemon balm is impossible to get rid of and spreads like crazy.  Hoping to get everything planted tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

I love going into the garden every day and seeing everything growing and showing the little ones how are vegetables grow.  They came with me tonight and it was so cute because they each had to have a cart and they wanted to help with everything.  Ethan was so cute helping me load all the plants and trays in the car and when we got home in the dark, he was so cute unloading the car with the older boys and making sure all the little plants were safely on the deck until we can plant them.  Luke had to tell everyone he had flowers and plants for Mommy and comment on their carts filled with plants and flowers.

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend and the unofficial start of summer.  Remember to take some time and remember the meaning of this holiday weekend.  God Bless all our troops and keep them safe, thank you to all our veterans, and thank you to the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  Happy Memorial Day from Mommy Ramblings!!!

Rosie’s How to Sew Doll Clothes Course Review and Giveaway!!!

Thanks to Rosie at Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns, I had the amazing opportunity to take her class  on sewing doll clothes for a review on Mommy Ramblings! The class consists of over 120 short video tutorials and 8 free doll clothes patterns that are made to fit the popular 18 inch American Girl dolls.

The video tutorials are super easy to understand for a novice seamstress, they are short and explain pretty much everything you need to know about sewing doll clothes. The provided patterns are straightforward and also easy to use, with video instructions for each pattern that are included free in the class. The free outfit patterns are so cute and fun, not to mention very easy to make, but still giving you that professionally finished look. Using Rosie’s tips, I was able to make some of the outfits fit my smaller Cabbage Patch Kid doll as well as the 18 inch doll. Rosie makes her videos relaxed and slow-paced as she educates you on many techniques and shortcuts for sewing, everything is explained in detail and very thorough so you don’t miss a thing! With the immediate access online class, you have full access to all of the video tutorials on the website for 12 months, giving you plenty of time to learn and review everything at your own pace. All of the videos are divided up into weekly lessons to keep it from being overwhelming. If everything at once is too much, you can sign up for the weekly emails, where new lessons will be emailed to you each week so you can take things slowly. Coming soon there will also be an option to get the whole class sent to you on DVD. What I love about this class, is that if for some reason you didn’t catch something, or don’t remember it later, you can go back and review the video. The quality of the videos was superb, and I never had any problems or glitches from streaming them. You can also make the videos full screen to get a closer look at what she is doing, which can be extremely helpful at times like when the object of the video is small.

This class is great for someone who has never sewn before, who just wants to start simple and sew her own doll clothes, or even an intermediate sewer who wants to learn some cool techniques. I will even admit that a more experienced seamstress like myself can benefit greatly from this course! I haven’t made doll clothes before, and this was a great opportunity for me to learn the aspects that make it differ from sewing adult or kid clothes. I actually learned many skills and shortcuts that I had never dreamt of. I loved how I was able to skip some of the tutorials of things I already knew and go straight to the refreshers and shortcuts I benefited from learning. If you have a daughter who loves her dolls and getting new clothes, this course gives you the opportunity to save so much money by doing it yourself, Rosie makes sewing doll clothes so easy that you’ll wonder why you ever forked over so much money for pre-made doll clothes! With her class, Rosie shows you that anyone can make their own doll clothes, and have fun while doing it! The class would actually be a fantastic gift for an older girl who is interested in sewing and wanting to start small. There are many other cute patterns for sale on the website, even after buying the pattern and fabric, making your own doll clothes is still saving you money on doll clothes!

So I am excited to let you know that Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns is sponsoring a giveaway on Mommy Ramblings! One lucky blog reader will win the entire “How to Sew Doll Clothes” course in their choice of Immediate access or the course delivered by email over 6 weeks. Thank you Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns for sponsoring this amazing review and giveaway!!!

Lugz, ZROCS-DX Oxford Sneaker Review & Giveaway!!!

We have worked with Lugz before and were thrilled to be able to review another pair of their awesome shoes.  This time my teenage son was the recipient of the review shoes.  We choose the Lugz, ZROCS-DX, they are a casual, sporty oxford sneaker and come in great colors.  My son liked the black, so that’s what we went with.  When they came, he was very happy and really liked them.  He had a few of his friends over and they all remarked that they were really great looking sneakers.  They actually used some different language than that but I am not sure if it is spelled Sic or Sick, either way it meant what I said previously.  They fit great and my son said they were really comfortable.  They are very high quality and features a metallic inset “L” logo on side panel, stylish shoe lace metal hardware and cushioned insole, padded tongue and collar.

ABOUT LUGZ

Lugz the brand Built for the Street has always been an innovator and leader in urban footwear, Lugz first made a name for itself in October of 1993, bringing its first line of boots to market.  Soon Lugz was endorsed by key players from the world of hip hop and has continued to do so through out the years by creating trendsetting styles beyond boots, adding casual shoes and athletics to the mix.  In the fall of 2008 Lugz shot on to the Mixed Martial Arts scene signing its first two MMA fighters, Lyoto Machida and Houston Alexander as endorsers. Machida captured the title of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion as he represented Lugz. Shortly after,  Lugz signed Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  In 2010 Cain Velasquez became the newest endorser of Lugz; immediately after signing, Cain fought to become UFC World Heavyweight Champion.  Today, 2011,  Lugzcontinues to grow its Team – signing UFC Welterweight Josh Koscheck and UFC Light Heavyweight Phil Davis.

The Pout-Pout Fish Book & CD Set Review and Giveaway!!!

Some of you may know that one of the other hats I wear professionally is as a staff writer for a baby and children’s industry trade publication.  I think it compliments my blog very well because we are often the first to get a peek at all the new looks, trends and products well before they are set to launch. Usually we are writing about products or clothing collections that are so new and always a season ahead at least that there is no actual product but look books and the designers photos to work with.  When we review books though, well it is necessary to have them in hand for a thorough review.  Recently I was sent a copy of The Pout-Pout Fish Book & CD Set for an article I was writing.  While I was writing up the book review, I thought this book set would be perfect to share with you and so I contacted the publishers and asked if they would mind me also sharing it with you on our blog and doing a giveaway.  They were all for it, so let’s get on with it shall we?

Little Orphan Annie reminded us that we’re never fully dressed without a smile.  What a great message for children to remember.  A smile goes a long way and is quite contagious.  Gloominess can be contagious too!  It’s no fun to be around someone who is grumpy and frowny all the time.  The Pout- Pout Fish Book & CD Set by Deborah Diesen , is a delightful children’s story about a gloomy pout-pout fish and his cheerful ocean friends who try their hardest to turn his frown upside down.  Dan Hanna’s  vivid illustrations of the frowning fish and his well-meaning friends, really give life to the pages of this inspiring story. The CD is narrated by the very talented Alexander Gould, who was the voice of Nemo in Disney’s iconic Finding Nemo.  The CD also features a read- along track with an underwater tone that lets children know when it is time to turn the page.

Deep in the water, Mr. Fish swims about with his fish face stuck in a permanent pout.  Can his pals cheer him up? Will his pout ever end?  Is there something he can learn from an unexpected friend?

Swim along with the pout-pout fish as he discovers that glum isn’t really his destiny.  Bright ocean colors and playful rhyme come together in this fun fish story that is sure to bring smiles and eradicate frowns.  One by one, pout-pout fish is approached by his sea pals to try to do something other than frown.  Ms. Clam tries to give him a pearl of advice and suggests he try smiling  but pout-pout fish gives his standard reply.  “I’m a pout-pout fish with a pout-pout face.  So I spread dreary-wearies all over the place.”  He then slumps down as low as he can go with a Blub, Bluuuub, Bluuuuub  and his infamous frown.  A jellyfish tries and pleads his best but pout-pout fish is the first to confess, he would like to be friendlier but he hasn’t a choice.  With the same old answer he glumly explains that his pout-pout face is for spreading dreary-wearies all over the place.  A squid and an octopus have no luck either in their quest to set the sulking fish straight.  He just gives them the same old answer and sinks slowly to ocean floor.

While pout-pout fish wallows in the dreariness he is sure is his destiny, he sees a fish coming toward him that he has never seen before.  She comes  upon him  in a silent silver shimmer and is a bright and brilliant swimmer.  She approaches Mr. Fish but instead of saying hey, she plants a kiss upon his pout and quickly swims away.  Mr. Fish is astounded in fact he’s aghast and after a blink he speaks at last. “My friends,” says Mr. Fish, “I should have known it all along.  I thought that I was pouty, but it turns out I was wrong.  I’m a kiss-kiss fish with a kiss-kiss face for spreading cheery-cheeries all over the place!” What a wonderful message for children to hear, that sometimes a kiss is all it takes to turn things around.

Deborah Diesen is the bestselling author of The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big-Big Dark.  She has worked as a bookseller and a librarian and now works for a small nonprofit organization, but her greatest joy comes from writing for children.  She lives with her family in Michigan.

OBLO Puzzle Sphere Review & Giveaway!!!

The OBLO is both a tactile and mental toy. As children construct and deconstruct its parts, the OBLO develops motor skills and hand-eye coordination as well as engaging children’s curiousity. As they use both of their hands to manipulate the OBLO, it is also a great preparation for learning to write and draw.

OBLO is the award-winning 3D spherical puzzle that challenges and inspires kids of all ages. OBLO is also an engaging, didactic puzzle ideal for growing minds. It’s a colorful layer of spheres that creates a compelling 3D puzzle.

The initial discovery of its parts happens when the puzzle is taken apart. The challenge is putting the spherical elements back together.

I was so thrilled to be able to review OBLO.  I love puzzles and so does my whole family.  OBLO is so colorful and is so fun.  When my 5-year-old saw it, he happily declared it had to be his because it was green and that is his favorite color.  The object of OBLO is to put the pieces back in a spherical shape after it is taken apart.  It will really keep you working to figure out how to do it.  Fun for everyone!!!

Pacific Pillows, Pillowtex ® Triple Core White Duck Down and Feather Pillow Review & Giveaway!!!

The people at Pillowtex ® know how difficult it is to feel rested when waking up with aches and pains even after a full night of sleeping, so they created a product that can help. The Pillowtex ® Triple Core White Duck Down and Feather Pillow not only provides comfort but will also support your head, helping to prevent those aches and pains. This support not only prevents those pains, but also helps you sleep more comfortably and therefore get more rest. I was lucky enough to receive one of these pillows from Pacific Pillows for review.  It is so comfortable and feels so nice to sleep on.  I really appreciate good pillows that support my head and neck while I am sleeping.  It is just awful to wake up with a stiff neck and feeling achy, because you just did not have the right support and  slept in a funny position.  Instead of feeling rested and ready to face the day ahead, you are in pain and it just sets you up for a miserable day.  Treat yourself to a supportive pillow and start waking feeling more rested and without aches and pains from poor support when sleeping.

Maisonnette Xavier Boy’s Shirt Review and Finn Boy’s Shirt Giveaway!!!

I recently had the chance to review the Xavier Boy’s Shirt from Maisonnette.  I chose this shirt for the review piece because I loved the guitar fabric and it fits our family of guitarists so well, even one of our smallest rock stars.  Even though he is practicing his brooding look in the photo, he loved this shirt and  even though it looks snapped closed in the photo it is actually being worn open with his Jimi Hendrix tee underneath and it is a great look.  I like the versatility that the shirt can be worn open or closed and it really allows for a lot of fashion freedom.  The shirt is very well made with a contrasting fabric on the shoulders and yolk in the back.  Made of 100% Cotton it is easy care machine wash and dry.

About Maisonnette:

Maisonnette started out as a unique boutique, located downtown Oceanside, CA, in a darling little black and white 1924 cottage. Maisonnette was founded in July of 2009 by the Girls of Maisonnette, Ava, Natalie and Madeline Warr.  Our original vision of Fabric, Photography, Art has morphed into a children’s clothing line!  We made the difficult decision to close shop and pursue our clothing line, Maisonnette, in September of 2011.  We are so excited by our new venture, but we will miss our many wonderful customers!

At Maisonnette, we believe that each child is unique, and their clothing should reflect that!  Madeline has designed the collection with an edgy twist to each piece.  Maisonnette clothing is for the modern child, with classic styles and an innovative flair!  We use only the finest fabrics, hand-picked by Madeline and Ava.  We search high and low to find the perfect fabric combinations to make each outfit a work of art!  We think that children everywhere will absolutely love wearing their clothing from, Maisonnette!  Mothers will love the quality and lasting styles that can be passed down.

Magic Cabin Pony Ride On Toys Review and Giveaway!!!

I have been a customer of Magic Cabin for over 2 decades.  Being the mother of 5 children with a span of a couple of decades between oldest and youngest, I was a loyal and satisfied customer when there was only a catalog business and Internet or online sales was far in the future.  I have always loved the toys they offered and have always been very happy with my purchases.

One of my favorite childhood toys had to be hippity hop balls and other similar bouncing toys.  I remember I had some huge orange one that had an oval shape and had two horn like handles and a sort of friendly creature face on it.  I can clearly remember what fun they were and how much we enjoyed them.  I was recently asked to pick something to review from Magic Cabin Toys and when I saw their pony ride on toys, I knew I had found it.  I chose the blue Rody ride on pony and the orange ride on pony ball.  They arrived quickly and are very high quality, made in Italy and super durable for lots of bouncing fun indoors and out.  We inflated them with our foot pump and then quickly inserted the air plug that is included (they send a spare as well).  After that all that was left was to add kid power and fun naturally resulted.

If you are looking for something fun and that will keep your child active and using their energy, check out the pony ride ons at Magic Cabin.
