Ever since I first heard of the Soda Stream home soda maker, I knew I had to try it out. So imagine my delight when I was invited to review one, I was ecstatic! I received a Soda Stream Starter kit that included a Genesis home soda maker, reusable carbonator, two soda bottles, a 12 pack assortment of single serve flavors, a 3 pack of My Water Flavor Essence, and a large variety of full size flavor bottles.
The Genesis Soda Stream is really easy to put together, the carbonating bottle screws directly into the housing in the top, then you slip the bottle and top together onto the base, and click into place! It makes for easy changing when your first bottle gets empty! To make soda with the Soda Stream, you just twist the bottle of water over the spout and then press the button on the top, each press releases a burst of carbonation, after a few pushes, the machine will make a buzzing sound that tells you the water is carbonated, pushing the button extra times will give you more carbonation.
I love that the Soda Stream system is so much more convenient than buying and having to get rid of so many cans or bottles of soda. I also like that it gives over 60 flavors to choose from, they are so tasty too, some of them are comparable in taste to the name brand sodas! I have even found that I can add a bit of the carbonated water to grape juice that is a little too sweet to begin with, and I get lightly carbonated, lightly flavored grape juice, I love it! Before I got the Soda Stream, I was disappointed when I wanted cold soda, but had forgotten to put any cans in the fridge, and the soda was warm. The only way to get soda cold quickly is to add ice to it, but then it waters it down. With the Soda Stream, if I forget to put water in the fridge beforehand, I can make some ice water, then strain the cold water into the soda stream bottle, carbonate it, and voila, cold soda without having ice cubes in it to water it down! I found that a bottle of flavored soda can last for 2-3 days in the fridge without losing it’s fizz!
With all of the advantages of a Soda Stream, you really can’t go wrong! You don’t have to stock up on cans upon cans of soda which you will have to dispose of after drinking, Every time you use the Soda Stream to make soda or sparkling water, it decreases the amount of bottles and cans going through the waste system, and reduces our carbon footprint. There is absolutely no high fructose corn syrup or aspartame in any of their many flavors! Plus you can find refill flavors and carbonating bottles at many of your local stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond and many more! Imagine just having to buy one bottle of flavoring that is the equivalent of buying almost three 12 packs of cans! Soda Stream leaves less waste, is better for you and takes up less space, plus it doesn’t use electricity or batteries. Despite the cost upfront, I believe the Soda Stream will save you money in the long run.
