Smart/Tangoes USA,SmartMax Magnetic Discovery Set Review & Giveaway!!!

If you are not a new reader of Mommy Ramblings, you should remember how much my husband and I like magnets and magnetic toys for our kids.  There is so much learning in magnets and concepts that kids can feel and relate to.  It was no wonder I picked the SmartMax Basic 42 Magnetic Discovery Set to review when I recently connected with Smart/Tangoes USA.  I don’t know who was more excited for them to arrive; us or the kids.  This is a large set with no small pieces that can be swallowed and can grow with your child from 1 year on up.  The quality is great, nice bright colors are stimulating and the magnets are strong so building is fun and easy.  It comes with a booklet that explains about magnets and then has examples of things kids can build.  This set would be awesome in the classroom too.  My little three-year old was immediately fascinated with the force created when he tried to put two like sides together.  Another favorite thing was when I showed him how he could use that same force to make a connected line of magnets move by going near one of the ends with a magnet of a like pole. He really thought that was pretty neat to see the magnets repel and move.  He immediately wanted to do it himself and it must have seemed like magic to him because he was so excited every time.  My five-year-old was so intent with his building that I could barely get him to look up for even a picture.  He was engrossed and was on a mission.  Needless to say the set was a huge hit and mommy and daddy were playing with it even when the kids were not around.

What makes SmartMax better?

  • SmartMax magnets have the correct strength for their purpose and are made from the highest-quality material that can be found. These magnets can carry up to 60 times their own weight!
  • SmartMax bars have a unique color code. Larger bars have stronger magnets than shorter ones.
  • SmartMax guides are by far the best on the market for magnetic toys.
  • SmartMax kits are very price-competitive on a comparable basis, offering a lot more play value for the same price.

Ages 1 and up.

Smart/Tangoes is sponsoring a giveaway on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win a SmartMax Basic 42 Magnetic Discovery Set (SRP $79.99).  Thank you Smart/Tangoes for the great review set and for sponsoring this very magnetic giveaway on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US residents.

Clean Water Fun, Garden Hose Filter Review & Giveaway!!! $10 Off Coupon Code!!!

Recently I was contacted by Clean Water Fun to see if we wanted to do a review of their Garden Hose Filter on Mommy Ramblings.  Back in the day we did not think anything to take a drink from the garden hose but these days there is so much more contamination and chemicals found in drinking water that to just gulp it right out of a garden hose doesn’t seem so smart.  I am pretty fortunate because we live on several acres of land and our well is drilled 650 feet down through rock in the mountains.  I have had our water tested and so I would not think twice if I saw my kids taking a sip from the hose but others live in areas with municipal water, water that has added chlorine and other things that are less than healthy.  In that case the Clean Water Fun, Garden Hose Filter gives parents peace of mind that the water they use from their hose is filtered.

The products under the Clean Water Fun brand name have been designed with children and families in mind.  These products are always BPA-Free, PVC & Phthalate Free, and Lead-Free.  The Clean Water Fun garden hose filter has been specially designed to fit any standard garden hose thread.  It has been third-party tested to remove Chlorine, VOCs, and Pesticides/Herbicides commonly found in home water supplies.  The Clean Water Fun garden hose filter can be used for any of your outdoor water needs where cleaner water is desired such as children’s outdoor water play, pet care, and organic gardening.  In third-party testing, the Clean Water Fun garden hose filter was shown to reduce chlorine by 93% or better and reduce organic chemicals by 99% or better at time of manufacture.

Clean Water Fun is offering Mommy Rambling’s Readers an exclusive coupon code “MR12” good for $10 off the Clean Water Fun garden hose filter through July 10.

We were recently asked to do a review of CollageIt at Mommy Ramblings.

Carolyn’s View:

The software was easy to download and very simple to use.  I would have like to see more customizable features but it easily created collages using my photos and their templates and saved them as jpegs very easily and quickly.  Great for sharing and for making special collages of graduations, birthdays, holidays etc.  The background colors were easily customizable and the photos could be easily cropped to fit in the frames.  This is a super easy tool that almost anyone will just be able to get on and use.

Molly’s View:

Collageit makes it so easy to make photo collages, first you choose the template you want to start with, then start adding your photos, by dropping them directly into the photo bin, or add them with the button. You can change the layout from portrait to landscape, and choose from a list of colors for the frames, and change the thickness of them. There are a few different options between frames, shadows, background and whatnot. Once you have chosen all the pictures you want to use, you can click the random button to switch around the frame layout to your liking, and it will add your pictures to the collage. By clicking the shuffle button, it will shuffle them around into different frames, you can do this until you find the right picture setup! Or you can switch pictures around manually to your preference. I love that it’s so easy to use and you can make a quick collage without much work! Then you can save it to your computer, or upload the collage directly to Facebook, Flickr, email it or set it as your wallpaper! This is really great for making collages of your kids for their grandparents or loved ones! I take my kids’ yearly photos myself, and now with this program, I can easily make my own baby portrait collages of the photos like the studios do!

What To Expect Book Series Review and Giveaway!!! 2 Winners!!!

I was recently contacted by whattoexpect.com and asked if I would do a review and giveaway of their books.  As the mother of 5, who read these books cover to cover and went through a few copies of What to Expect When You’re Expecting and What to Expect The First Year and also at least one copy of What to Expect The Second Year, it was a no brainer.  I was sent the latest editions of What to Expect When You’re Expecting, What to Expect The First Year and What to Expect The Second Year.  One thing I loved about What To Expect When You’re Expecting, is that an anxious expectant mother like myself did not need any pregnancy books to scare her or make her worry more than she already did.  The tone of the book is very reassuring, while not sweeping serious issues under the rug they are presented in such a way as to not frantically alarm expectant parents.  I also loved how it was set up and I would read this book every night and go month by month and look ahead to the month to come.  It was full of great information for dealing with some of the common issues of pregnancy as well as the not so common.  This would be my ultimate first and foremost pregnancy book recommendation.  I am sure many of you already agree with me.

What to Expect The First Year takes you on the exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking first year of life with baby.  Find expert advice on colic, diaper rash, weaning, sleeping, feeding, illness, and other issues that are paramount in raising baby from birth to 1 year.

What to Expect The Second Year continues the journey from 12 months to 2 years, find advice on discipline, feeding, behaviour issues, social development and more.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting:

The latest information, a friendlier-than-ever voice, a new look — it’s a brand-new, cover-to-cover revision of What to Expect When You’re Expecting—the book that’s been a New York Times bestseller for 351 weeks and counting, and is read by over 90 percent of pregnant women who read a pregnancy book. More comprehensive, reassuring, and empathetic than ever, the fourth edition covers everything an expectant mom (and dad) needs to know, from preparing for pregnancy to birth to those first miraculous (and exhausting) weeks with a new baby. It is overflowing with tips, helpful hints, and humor, making it even more accessible and easier to use than ever before.

Highlights of the fourth edition include:

  • Detailed week-by-week fetal development section in each of the monthly chapters
  • Practical advice for pregnant women on the job
  • Expanded chapter on pre-conception
  • Much more on surviving pregnancy’s emotional ups and downs
  • Brand-new section on having a safe and pampered pregnancy

What to Expect the First Year:

Following a two-year, cover-to-cover, line-by-line revision and update, America’s bestselling guide to caring for a baby is now better than ever.

The second edition of What to Expect the First Year incorporates the most recent developments in pediatric medicine. Every question and answer has been revisited, and in response to letters from readers, dozens of new Q&A’s have been added. The book is more reader-friendly than ever, and the new material brings more in-depth coverage to issues such as newborn screening, home births and the resulting at-home newborn care, vitamins and vaccines, milk allergies, causes of colic, sleep problems, SIDS, returning to work, sibling matters, weaning, sippy cups, the expanded role of the father, and much more.

 book includes:

  • Information on your child’s monthly growth and development
  • Feeding strategies for every age and stage
  • Sleep solutions that really work
  • Up-to-date medical advice and practical tips

What to Expect the Second Year:

Heidi Murkoff’s What to Expect has delivered again. Announcing the arrival of a brand-new member of the What to Expect family: What to Expect the Second Year. The essential sequel to What to Expect the First Year, with 9.7 million copies in print, What to Expect the Second Year picks up the action at baby’s first birthday, and takes parents through what can only be called “the wonder year”—12 jam-packed (and jam-smeared) months of memorable milestones (from first steps to first words, first scribbles to first friends), lightning-speed learning, endless explorations driven by insatiable curiosity. Not to mention a year of challenges, both for toddlers and the parents who love them, but don’t always love their behaviors (picky eating, negativity, separation anxiety, bedtime battles, biting, and tantrums).
Comprehensive, reassuring, empathetic, realistic, and practical, What to Expect the Second Year is filled with solutions, strategies, and plenty of parental pep talks. It helps parents decode the fascinating, complicated, sometimes maddening, always adorable little person last year’s baby has become.

From the first birthday to the second, this must-have book covers everything parents need to know in an easy-to-access, topic-by-topic format, with chapters on growth, feeding, sleeping, behaviors of every conceivable kind, discipline (including teaching right from wrong), and keeping a toddler healthy and safe as he or she takes on the world. There’s a developmental time line of the second year plus special “milestone” boxes throughout that help parents keep track of their toddler’s development. Thinking of traveling with tot in tow? There’s a chapter for that, too.

whattoexpect.com is sponsoring a giveaway on Mommy Ramblings.  2 lucky blog readers will win a set of all three titles shown above.  Thank you whattoexpect.com for the review books and for sponsoring this great giveaway on Mommy Ramblings!!!  Open to US residents.

National Geographic, All-Terrain Nature Collector & High Sierra Eco Explorer Review & Giveaway!!!

I recently connected with Uncle Milton and had the opportunity to review some toys from their National Geographic Outdoor Explorer Series.  I chose the All -Terrain Nature Collector and the High Sierra Eco Explorer.  These are just perfect for my little guys who love go and find bugs and various critters in the woods, streams and lake near our home.

The All Terrain Nature Collector features grip and go action, snap on collections domes, turnable handles for easy collection, and an explorer activity guide.  My little guys loved the grip and go action and that they cold collect the specimen from a distance and then carefully observe it before releasing it back to its habitat.

The High Sierra Eco Explorer has a bug viewer, searchlight, headlamp, magnifier, soil sifter, recon tool, belt clip and explorer activity guide.  My husband and kids liked that the light connected to the collection container for easy viewing of the specimen.  This set is great because it has a handy belt clip that will let you attach most pieces together and hang from your belt loop.

Vtech, Switch & Go Dinos Review!!!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of VTechKids for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

One thing that is a given with my little boys, is that they love vehicles and dinosaurs. When I had the opportunity recently to review the new Vtech Switch & Go Dinos, it truly was an offer I could not refuse.  From the moment the box arrived in the house and I unpacked the contents, they both could not stop asking to play with them.  I was happy to oblige as I myself wanted to see how they worked.  We received Sliver, The T-Rex who is green which is my five-year-old’s favorite color and Horns, The Triceratops which is a great fit for my 3-year-old.

This dinos are packed with great features that my boys just love.  Each dino has over 50 wild sounds and phrases, volume control, sound effect and voice buttons, an LCD screen that allows my boys to customize their toy when it is in dino form or morphed into a dinoriffic vehicle.  I like as a parent that one toy can be switched from a dino to a vehicle and back again.  My boys are having lots of fun with these Switch & Go Dinos and I think they are great when traveling and space is an option because they will have two great toys in the space of one.  The toys are easy to transform and the boys can do it easily and not get frustrated.

The toy is educational too as the action buttons trigger interesting fact s about each dinosaur when they are in dino form.  In vehicle form they can customize the driver which is a lot of fun using the LCD screen.  The LCD custom screen is a feature they love because they can easily change their dinosaurs eyes or driver and  they find this quite entertaining.  There are 2 other Switch & Go Dinos in the Starter Dino series; T-Don the Pteranodon and Tonn the S Stegosaurus.  Available exclusively on Amazon.com begining at $15.99, Buy today on Amazon. Beginning on June 18th they will also be available for purchase on VTechKids.com and this Fall 2012 they will hit the shelves of most major retailers.
