Coffee, Sweet Treats, Friends, Family and Conversation; what’s not to like?  I had a wonderful opportunity to review some of Dunkin’ Donuts new Flavors of the Season coffees with a party of family and friends recently, and there were even goodie bags for the guests!  A reusable large Dunkin’ Donuts tote, one pound of one of the new Flavors of the Season coffees, a large drink container perfect for ice coffee, ice coffee recipe and coupons would go home with every guest!  We love Dunkin’ Donuts and know how great their coffee is, so we were thrilled to be picked to host this and try the new limited edition flavors.

I brewed up some of the coconut, strawberry shortcake and triple berry  flavored coffees   Some like it hot and some like it cold, so we made some of each and everyone could customize with cream and sugar and of course some delicious treats to dunk and eat to compliment the delicious beverages.  We all thought the new flavors lend themselves perfectly to refreshing ice coffees but we also think they tasted great as a traditional hot beverage as well.  It just seems like these flavors are a hit either way and makes us a little sad they are only around for a limited time. They did not taste perfumey or artificial but the flavor was genuine and rich without being overpowering. I think my favorite was the strawberry shortcake but the coconut was a close second.  The triple berry is great for ice coffee as it makes a perfect berry cooler type drink that is super satisfying and refreshing on a hot day!

Our guests loved the coffee, we did a Mother’s Day Coffee Break Theme and everyone agreed the new flavors are really great and is sad they are only available for a limited time.  Favorite flavors were tough because everyone had different tastes but Strawberry Shortcake was a hit with the guests as well as it was with me.  The ice coffee is absolutely delicious and was a huge guest favorite and it was not even a hot day when we did this, in fact we had a bit of a cold snap.

If you are wanting to try the new flavors, they are available now so hurry because they are only here for a limited time!!!  So head out to your grocery store and pick up some Dunkin’ Donuts Triple Berry, Strawberry Shortcake and Coconut Flavored Coffee today!!!  You will be so glad you did!!!

IndieFlix, Independent Film Service Review & Giveaway For 10 Winners!!!

843742_571416862870897_1936466580_o

I have something really cool to tell you all about.  There’s this great service called IndieFlix that was founded by filmmakers who were inspired by independent filmmakers and their work. They took that inspiration and created a platform for us to get our Indie Fix.  Now we can view thousands of films that are created by some of the most brilliant and creative minds out there. IndieFlix is a subscription service that lets subscribers enjoy all the films they want for mere pennies a day!  Best of all through their unique revenue-sharing Royalty Pool Minutes (RPM) model, filmmakers get paid for every minute watched by an IndieFlix subscriber. The more you watch, the more money they make. And more money = more movies.

It is so easy to find whatever you’re in the mood to watch because you can browse by genre, rating, length, festival or country.  I watched two great short films today.  The House I Keep which was 11 minutes long and was about a woman coming to terms and dealing with the grief of her miscarriage.  The trailer for The House I Keep is below.

The other was, Weathered and was 19 minutes long about a young woman who is longing for human connection and gets it the only way she knows how…by making doctor’s appointments.  You can also rate the films and leave a comment.  You can watch right on your computer or have them stream through a Roku or Xbox.  I think it’s a great idea and a wonderful way for independent filmmakers to get a much wider audience to see their films.

Safe Haven Blu-ray and Novel Giveaway!!! Bonus DIY Decorating Tips!!!

Safe Haven staring  Julianne HoughJosh Duhamel and Cobie Smulders was just released on Blu-ray on May 7th !!!

SafeHaven_BD_Oring_Spine

Synopsis:
Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough star in this spellbinding romantic drama based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook). When a mysterious, beautiful woman named Katie (Hough), moves to Southport, North Carolina, she sparks the interest of the locals, especially Alex (Duhamel), a handsome widower. Although she is attracted to Alex, Katie is reluctant to trust him – that is, until a new friend (Cobie Smulders) convinces her to give Alex a chance. But before long, a dark secret from Katie’s past threatens her happiness in this thrilling romance directed by Lasse Hallström (Dear John).

In celebration of Safe Haven’s home entertainment release, we’re sharing a list of fun, inexpensive, DIY décor tips for your abode:

  1. Gallery Maven – use floating shelves to hold your decorative objects and funky art pieces. Stagger them to make the shelves really stand out! Feeling adventurous? Re-purpose an old wine crate as a display shelf.
  2. Clean Those Brushes – can’t paint your apartment walls? No worries, paint your furniture. A new coat will give your favorite desk or nightstand a new life.
  3. I’m Open! – Don’t have enough cupboard space? Get a metal shelving unit. The open space can allow you to store kitchen staples in fun unique ways.
  4. Put Bird On It – No money for art? Try a decal! Use it on picture frames, mirrors and lamps.
  5. Pillow Fun – Have fun with pillows of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Your couch, bed, and pets will thank you.
  6. Towel Off – Bath, guest and shower towels get all the attention. But what about dish towels? The good news is they don’t have to match your kitchen, so have fun with designs and colors you like.
  7. Vase It – Any room will be immediately brightened up with a pretty vase and flowers, including the bathroom. No vase? Try a mason jar. Feeling experimental? Use wine bottles as vases and use brackets to hang them on the wall.
  8. Apothecary Meet Mason – storing them in apothecary or mason jars can gussy up everyday items like cotton balls and Q-Tips. Simple yet elegant.
  9. 45s and 33s – Do you own records that are too scratched up to play? Don’t toss them; hang them strategically from your ceiling or from your wall.
  10.  Candle Love – Don’t get rid of your current glass candleholders. Dress them up with twine and lace to give them a new look!

Vintage School Desk Make Over, Before & After!!!

Well, I finished another project today.  I finished what I showed you the before of last week, the big school desk.  It was one that I had as a child, but had been sitting in a basement for years and years and needed love and vision.  I really wish I had all of the school desks we had but lucky that I have a small one that I refinished and if you missed it you can check that out HERE, and this one.  I also bought another that I should have done before the week is over and that desk is a different style entirely.  Cannot wait to share it with you.

For this desk, I started by sanding everything,  starting with the metal which I did with a special wire brush tool that goes on the end of a drill and makes easy work of microderm abrasion as I like to call it.  After that, I sanded all the wood and then needed to do some filling, gluing and clamping.  After that it was time to prime the metal and I used Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Gray Primer and then I used a Rustoleum Green Gloss Protective Enamel Spray Paint for the final coats. I did the detail painting and the accent strip on the seat and pencil holder on the desk with the same green protective enamel by Rustoleum in the can so I could brush it on. I stained the wood with Minwax Special Walnut, sanding between coats and then used Minwax Satin Polyurethane, sanding between coats.  I really like it and so do my kids.  What do you think?

Priming the metal, don't mind the huge mess I work in with all my stuff. I also recycle old tablecloths as drop cloths.

Decoupage Furniture with Fabric and ModPodge

Hope you all had a super weekend.  I had a really busy week, so I was thankful to have a relaxing and fun weekend.  I spent some time finishing or nearly finishing some of my many projects.  I finished decoupaging one of two little chairs.  I still need to seal everything with ModPodge and then I am going to seal the whole chair with a Poly Acrylic.  I have to do the other chair, but it should be easier now, since I know a few shortcuts and better ways to do things. I used fabric instead of paper, and it turned out really nice.

I’m almost done with the other school desk I am refinishing, I should be able to finish it tomorrow, at least I hope I will.  Then, I have to start on my 3rd desk project and start working on refinishing an antique desk for my studio/office.  After that, I plan to start that stair painting project that I told you about for the basement stairs, and the stairs to my studio.  I cannot wait to start painting the stairs!  All I need is time.

I need to decide whether I am painting the table that goes with the little chairs with grape or turquoise paint.  I am also toying with the idea of decoupaging the table top, but I don’t think I will, because I think the paint will be a nice contrast. Who knows though, I may change my mind and decoupage the table.  You can see the chair below that needs to be sealed. Let me know what you think of it.

Have you ever done any decoupaging with fabric. Let me know if you have, and how it turned out.
