Classic Kids’ Toys That Stand The Test Of Time-#HolidayGiftGuide Giveaway!

lakeshore logo

When you think about children’s toys, there are the flash in the pan, flavor of the week toys and there are the classic toys that thrill kids from generation to generation. Parents embrace classic toys because they remind them of their childhood and they know they are a wise investment that will provide their child with years of fun. One of those classics is blocks. Blocks are so great because they are never the same toy twice and the possibilities are limited only by one’s own imagination.

Recently I had the chance to take a look at Lakeshore Learning’s Castle Blocks. These enchanting hardwood blocks let kids create a fascinating fortress, spacious palace & more! The durable, stackable blocks come in 12 unique shapes & are printed on every side with a fun medieval theme—so kids can construct castles from all directions! They come in a set of  60 blocks.

Castle Blocks

My kids loved them and have been playing with them since they arrived. Every day there is a different adventure that awaits them, new castles to build and conquer and battles to be won. This is the kind of creative play I like to see in my child, one that has them really thinking about what they are doing. I think with all the technology today, children need a balance or they will miss out on challenging their brains in a creative way.

The blocks are gorgeous, solid wood and decorated beautifully on all sides. They are a true heirloom toy to be handed down from generation to generation.

Rocking On The RockBoard RBX Scooter-Giveaway!

rockbaord scooter box

rockboard scooter box open

rbx rockboard

Our kids are extremely active! They will be outdoors playing from sun up to long after sun down. Definitely no couch potatoes here! They love riding bikes around the lake we live, we all do! I was intrigued when I saw the Rockboard RBX Scooter. This scooter allows kids and adults up to 220 lbs to propel themselves without the typical kicking. With the Rockboard RBX you propel yourself by rocking and your feet never need to touch the ground. It is a rocking motion that propels the scooter and our 6-year-old and 8-year-old were able to get the hang of it rather quickly.

The RBX is not something you will spend all day assembling. In fact there are only a few pieces to connect and you can be off and rocking. My husband was able to get this from the box to a fully functioning scooter in a matter of minutes. It is recommended for ages 8 and up and can scoot along at up to 10 MPH. It comes in red, blue and black.

Lugz, Women’s Shifter Work Boot Review & Giveaway!!!

Lugz-Logo

We have officially entered the winter season. If you are looking for a sharp looking, practical boot that will give you good traction no matter what winter dishes out, I have a recommendation.  I recently browsed Lugz great selection of boots and decided to try the Lugz, Women’s Shifter work boot in black.  Now, as a woman with size 11 feet, I was worried they would be huge and make my feet look tremendous.  I was wrong, in fact they make my feet look smaller.  The boots looked so small I thought they would be too small but they were not and provided lots of room for my feet.

The boots are sturdy and very high quality that will stand up to any amount of hard work or just a day out running errands.  The cushioned insoles keep my feet comfy and the sole provides lots of gripping traction to keep me on my feet and not slip sliding away on snowy or icy terrain.  As long time Lugz lovers, our family knows their shoes and boots stand up to lots of wear and keep looking good.  If you are looking for durable, good-looking footwear for your entire family, check out Lugz!

Right Now if you buy one pair of Lugz, you will get 50% Off another pair when you use the code BOGODEC but hurry this great offer ends December 30th!!! See the site for full details on this amazing offer.

Doll Houses Are Not Just For Kids!

lundby-logo

I was introduced to the world of Lundby doll houses a little over a year ago.  A doll lover and collector all my life, dolls and doll houses are something I never outgrew.  I am not alone, Lundby has a wide collector base of women and men who collect the houses, furnishings, restore older houses and love to talk about and share their collections on online forums.

There are several Facebook pages where Lundby lovers and collectors do just that.  Lundby is timeless, loved by children, tweens, teens and right up to adults, the charm of Lundby just grows over the years.  Enjoyed by generations, Lundby love is passed down and these quality Swedish doll houses become family heirlooms.  Today, you will find older Lundby doll houses in great demand and many collectors are enthusiastically restoring the older homes to their modern glory.  Much more than a hobby, Lundy collectors have a passion!

Well, this year our Lundby Smaland doll house expanded with the addition of two rooms, garden area, several new furniture sets and great Christmas sets.  In fact our Lundby home is decked out or should I say the halls have been decked with Christmas magic.  The floor addition was easy to assemble, my young son even got in on the action and helped to secure the walls.  The house has real working lights which add a warmth and the new Christmas sets are a festive touch with a glowing fire in the fireplace and candles that light up on the tree.  Under the tree, wrapped in shiny paper and gold cord are gifts and you don’t need to peek to see there is a Smaland doll house just ready to be unwrapped come Christmas morning.

Five Apps For Mommies With Me Time

200194753-001

Guest Post by Elisa Vicente Arce

If you’re a mommy like me then you’ll know as well as anyone how much you value your precious ‘me time.’ Whether it’s when the kids are in school or have gone upstairs to bed, we all love to put our feet up and read a book, watch TV or even play a few games on our mobile phones. In the modern age it seems we’re all addicted to our smartphones and tablets, so if you fall into that category, here are a few apps that are perfect for the modern-day mommy.

Healthy in a Hurry

Looking after your family’s health can be one of the biggest challenges when it comes to cooking on a time limit. If you’re lacking in a little inspiration, this wonderful little app features more than 200 recipes from the Eating Well Test Kitchen. Once you’ve got the app installed, nothing needs to be downloaded, and you can also filter what you want by main ingredient – perfect for fussy tummies.

Baby Connect

Are you pulling your hair out over your newborn? Having to cope with one baby can be hard enough, but when you’ve got more than one child you could find yourself at your wits’ end. Thankfully, the digital age is here to help us – Baby Connect helps to manage your child’s schedules and also records information such as feeding and sleeping times, and you can also manage personal contacts such as daycare centers.

Online Bingo

It’s the one guilty pleasure that many modern day mommies have, and why not? With so much choice out there, online bingo apps are more than just a simple game of calling out numbers – there is everything from Candy Crush-inspired classics to themed slot games!

Spending most of our days talking baby talk can lead us all to want a little excitement in our lives, and the app provides just that.

Baby Games

Ideal for tablet users, Baby Games provides a variety of colourful games to help stimulate and educate your baby boy or girl. Simply place your tablet on a stand or hold baby on your lap and let him or her play touch with a whole host of different challenges from Jack in the Box to Whack a Mole.

Earthlapse

If playing a few online games isn’t your idea of relaxation, you may want to try giving Earthlapse a go – not only does it play new-age, relaxing music; it also features time lapse photography of images of planet Earth as captured by NASA. To take you a world away from the stresses of motherhood, this app is truly out of this world.

Find Out Why Moms Love To Play G5’s “The Secret Society-Hidden Mystery” Free-To-Play Mobile Game!!!

Secret Society Hidden Mystery

We all know moms are busy, but they still need some down time.  Did you know there are a lot of moms who enjoy playing mobile games on their smart phones and tablets?  Maybe you’re one of those moms.  Some might wonder how any mom would have time for that and I think you may be surprised at some of the answers.

G5 Entertainment, is a leading developer and publisher of high-quality casual and free-to-play mobile games for women. The spirited, adventure-seeking women who devour their games include multitasking moms looking for inspiration, stimulation and excitement. The Secret Society – Hidden Mystery is a captivating mix of I-spy scenes, gem match puzzles, brain teasers and memory games. In the game, you become a member of the Order of Seekers and start exploring enchanting worlds by entering photographs. The goal is to collect clues that will expand even further the world you’re traveling in and help you unravel mysteries related to your missing uncle. This wildly popular hidden object adventure also features social elements: you can help your game mates, make friends and send and receive in-game gifts.

Secret Society ss

G5 has always been dedicated  to making the most enjoyable, casual games possible. They are very aware that the people who play these games are primarily women. What they didn’t know was what kind of women play their games and why.  So they asked.  What they found out was not only interesting but also extremely heartwarming.  The moms were asked when and how they find the time to play the free-to-play hidden object adventure, The Secret Society-Hidden Mystery. The stories are shared on G5’s Facebook page but you can read a sampling of some of the most striking responses below.

Secret Society ss1

Christy: “As a full-time nurse and full-time mom, this game is my escape. It is my reward to myself after a long day. I love the fact that it keeps my brain stimulated especially since Alzheimer’s runs in my family. Games like The Secret Society help fight it! Thanks again for an awesome game for moms!”

Devan: “After a long day of work and not seeing my babies, this is a game I get to enjoy. I play it while my newborn is sleeping on my lap and I can’t move anywhere for fear of waking her up. Also, my four-year-old stepson likes to ‘help’ find items (he taps the screen repeatedly and loses some of the allotted time). It’s a nice way to relax and share some fun.”

Dolores: “I have stage IV lung cancer, and I love playing this game. It helps take my mind off other issues in my life. I am a mom, but my son is grown and married. We have two grandsons who are the joys of our lives.”

Joanne: “I’m a 63-year-old grandmother who is disabled and bedridden. I play The Secret Society to enjoy and have some interaction with other people. They don’t know how old I am or my physical condition, which is a plus. I got my grandson to play, and we have that extra contact, which makes it special. I don’t know how other people feel but my friends [in the game] are considered my friends. I think this game is great and I go through the whole nine yards from happy to frustrated but enjoy playing.”

Wren: “My mom showed this game to me when I told her I was looking for a simple game to play on my phone while I spent hours rocking my son to sleep. I instantly became addicted! Honestly, this game really helped get me through long nights. Now that my son is older I play while he naps and again after he goes to bed for the night. I usually sneak in a few scenes when he is playing well on his own too. It is a fantastic game!”

Michelle: “I play at night when everyone else is asleep. I’m a busy mom of four, with three of those being boys! So I like it when it’s quiet with a low chance of interruption. I love the soft clicking sound of the gem match game. I put headphones on so I can hear the clicks as the gems fall into place. I find it very soothing.”

Dianne: “This game has become a lifeline to me as I suffer from CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome). I spend a great deal of time with nerve pain, and this game serves as a distraction for me in coping with what I have.”

Nanette: “I love playing this game. I am a stay-at-home mom of two – three if you count my dog. I also take care of my Dad and his house. This game is perfect to play while waiting for laundry or while cooking. The power level I have at this time allows me to play during the lulls in my housework without forgetting to get back to work. As soon as the power runs out, I go back to cooking, cleaning or what have you.”

Christine: “I play whenever I can. In short bursts while cooking dinner or after the kids have gone to school or to bed. It is definitely a great way to unwind even if I just have a few minutes. My eight-year-old has even started to help me find items when I’m stuck. She likes to look over my shoulder when I play.”

Melinda: “I play mainly when the baby is napping and when everyone goes to sleep at night. I have gotten my mother, sister-in-law, husband, best friend, son, daughter, niece and nephew all addicted to this game. Now, none of them can say that I have a problem! LOL.”

Heather: “As the mum of two active kids I spend a lot of time waiting in the car for them to come out of clubs. This is a great time to play as I get peace and don’t feel guilty about not doing housework.”

Chicken Soup For The Soul, “The Multitasking Mom’s Survival Guide” Review & Giveaway!!! 3 Winners!!!

csfts new logo

Do you ever feel like you have so much on your plate you can never catch up?  I feel like that most days.  I always look around and feel that I just have so much going on.  With a house in chaos because no less than 5 major home improvement projects are happening, a very busy career as a marketing director, busy blogger and writer, brand ambassador, and handling a few businesses that my husband and I have, added to the fact that we have 5 kids and a big house (ever see the movie The Money Pit?), where there is always something to be done, I can feel like things are swirling out of control.  I am blessed to be able to work from home but I still work and work a lot!  I make time to play but probably not as much as I should.

When I was picking out books to review from Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing, I chose The Multitasking Mom’s Survival Guide.  Do you wonder how I made that decision?  I didn’t think so.  I love this book because it’s filled with stories with moms like me, some who juggle and wonder how to keep all those balls in the air just like I do.  I have found that it’s okay to give yourself permission to say, “I am done for the day” and leave whatever for tomorrow and if it doesn’t get done then so be it.

I know that I need to prioritize what really needs to be done, my family needs, my needs, jobs that have deadlines are all first.  Then the things we want to get done can come next, but if I don’t get something done, I’m going to stop beating myself up for it.  The opposite is true to that too.  I read in one story in the book, we are told over and over the importance of playing with our kids, that messy houses are signs of great moms, but our kids need to see that we do have to work. Whether it’s for a job or doing the laundry, we teach them important things by showing them we have responsibilities that need attention too.  That really allows moms to release some of that mommy guilt  we all carry in one or two large suitcases with us.  Let’s unpack some of that today!

Stories that show the importance of a mom taking me time strike a very strong chord with me.  Often times I want to put my needs last but really, when I do the things for me I need to do or just spend some down time doing something I enjoy, it really helps my mood, spirit and productivity.  It’s just recognizing that if we don’t take care of our needs we can’t do a good job taking care of anything else and risk becoming resentful.

Stories about slowing down, learning from our kids, juggling a career and laughing after the fact among others will show you how other moms are surviving their multitasking years.  Read some great tips, funny disaster stories, and fill your mind with great ideas for your own life.  Best of all, you will know you are in good company and not alone.  You can purchase the book on Amazon.com.

Lakeshore, 3-Way Tabletop Easel Review & Giveaway To Celebrate National Crafts Month!!!

Lakeshore Logo

March is National Crafts Month and we love crafts all year in our family so we really thing giving them some recognition is so cool.  My children are all very creative and artistic and so you will find tons of craft supplies, markers, colored pencils, paints, chalks, paper and much more in our home.  My little ones really love to draw and so since they are so close in age and want to do everything together. The 3-Way Tabletop Easel from Lakeshore was the perfect choice for a great art center where they can paint, color and create their own masterpieces  together!

Lakeshore Easel

Right out of the box this easel is a cinch to get set up and you only need to do a quick 2 screw attachment on the tray with the alyn wrench included.  One side features a high quality chalk board that erases completely.  It is a real pet peeve of mine when chalk boards are hard to erase or do not erase completely without a great deal of elbow grease.

Lakeshore 3 Way Tabletop Easel

The other side is a dry erase white board and there is a tray underneath that extends out so each side has a place to hold paint, markers, chalk and other supplies.

Lakeshore 3 Way Tabletop Easel Pic 2

Two blue clips are included to hold paper.  This easel has been used daily since I opened it.  I like that it is lightweight and portable yet sturdy.  It is so easy to take it out on the deck on a nice day and let the kids paint or color outside and then just bring it back in when they are finished without having to lug something big around.
