Our Summer Journey With Safety 1st!!! #OurSummerJourney

Living in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York is like being on a great vacation all summer.  We live on a lake, and people who live here relish when they can spend a week or two vacation at the lake.  We are so blessed that we live here and get to play here every day!!!

This is what it's like living on a lake in the summer!!! Out with the kids on the Walk On Water Mat and being circled by my cousin and neighbors. #OurSummerJourney

Besides the lake there is so much to do and we recently took a few day trips that were so much fun!  We went to the Wayne County Fair in nearby Pennsylvania, we gathered rocks as we spent some time on the Delaware River that we will use for a rock painting and landscaping project, we went blueberry picking and made a scrumptious blueberry pound cake.

When we take day trips we are gone all day and the kids like to sleep on the way there and usually fall asleep for the night on the way home.  It is important to me that they are comfortable and safe in the car.  That’s why we love Safety 1st car seats.  The  Advance SE 65 Air+ Convertible Car Seat is safe and super comfy for Luke and he sleeps like a baby in it!  It has a nice big cup holder and it’s a super safe seat that is reinforced with steel.  The Air Protect® advanced cushion system protects his head, where it’s needed most and the GCell HX™ patented foam with hexagonal shapes inside the seat provides superior body protection.  The seat provides full body side impact protection and that gives parents peace of mind!  This seat as well as the new one for Ethan that is just a bit delayed surely make #OurSummerJourney day trips much easier!

We took a great day trip to the Wayne County Fair in Pennsylvania and the kids had an awesome time.  There was a big Monster Truck show and so between the rides, animals, show, food, exhibits and more it was very late when we were driving home.  It is nice that a seat so safe is so comfortable!

WOW-WalkOnWater Pad–A Great Summer Toy For Kids, Adults and Even Fido!!!

We still have a couple of weeks before school starts, I had hoped to bring you this earlier but the weather this summer has left much to be desired. Rain was an understatement and this soggy summer did not make for the ideal conditions for fun on the lake.  There were a few days and a brief heat wave week that we are grateful for but certainly wished the sun had shined a little more and that the clouds and raindrops would have taken a backseat.

We did get to try out a great new water toy.  The Wow-WalkOnWater Pad lets kids and adults even Fido have some floating, fun.

The WOW-WalkOnWater is the perfect choice to bring for fun to any  lake party or ocean activity. For water skiers the WOW is a Terrific Launch Platform. This is not just a kid’s toy –WalkOnWater Pad is also designed for adult parties, too.

The WOW Pad weighs less than 30 LBS and is brightly colored for great visibility. The Rolled Pad measures only two feet in diameter and can easily be transported. The regular Pad supports a distributed weight of 800 – 1,000 LBS. while the Jumbo Pad supports 1,400 – 1,600 LBS.

Made from cross linked foam – preferred for marine applications (such as off shore buoys) vs. non cross linked foam used in pool noodles.

Each WOW Pad comes with Velcro® straps to hold the rolled WOW Pad in place for easy storage, as well as mooring device which allows easy attachment to your boat, dock or pier. You can sit, walk, run or relax on this amazing pad. It is virtually maintenance free without the puncture worries that come with inflatable products. The second of January brings the second gorgeous day of the new year!!!

January 2nd and a beautiful mild day.  I set out on my walk with my little man Ethan and Sassy Sassafras.  Ethan was so happy to go along and skipped almost the whole way.  He did stop to throw snow rocks into the lake but they did not make a big splash like in the warmer weather but skipped across the icy lake top.  It was Sassy’s first time around the lake and she was just as good as Zazzy (Zoey).  At one point Ethan picked her up and wanted to hold her but I appealed to him to let her walk and get good exercise too.   I love how taking a nice walk outside just energizes the body and minds of adults, children and dogs alike.  We all returned home, happy, refreshed and grateful.  Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying the mild temps we are having.

What a wonderful day to ring in 2011!!!

Well, it was gorgeous and so mild today.  At around 4pm I set off for a walk with Zazzy (Zoey).  It was Zazzy’s first time around the lake and she was so good.  She stayed right by me, did not wander ahead or lag behind.   She kept the pace and really enjoyed herself.  Jimi and the boys were working-playing outside.   Jimi is building a Bulldog barrier for the porch so no more of the spindles go missing.  As I explained in a prior post, my discontinued cedar porch spindles are being eaten by two very mischievous Bulldogs.  In the spring we will have to make the decision to have the replacement spindles hand milled out of mahogany or replace them all with a composite vinyl spindles and railing.   I am leaving those decisions for the spring and for now we will just build a barrier to prevent further damage.

It was incredibly mild, I did not even need a jacket.  The lake is semi-frozen.  Definitely would not be on the ice as it looks a bit thawing.  I guess we are right on target for the infamous “January Thaw” my mother always spoke about.  I took my camera and it was a great walk that definitely worked out my body and mind.  I find walking and taking pictures so relaxing and really helps to de-stress  and unwind my mind.  I especially love being able to look back on various pictures at different times of the year.  I love looking at my beautiful bright Peony flowers on a cold winter night, or see my kids splashing and swimming in the lake when we are blanketed in snow.

I really like that I started the new year off with a nice walk.  Getting my body back to the routine of my walks felt so good.  I mean walking on a treadmill is nothing to the experience of walking out in the beautiful world we live in.  When I walk with my camera there is always the anticipation of what I  might  see and photograph.  What great scene may I be able to capture?  I hope you all have a wonderful new year.  I pray we are all blessed with good health and great love in the new year.  God Bless.  Welcome 2011!!!

Summer Fun!!!

I know, I know!!!  I have not been a very good blogger of late.  Blame it on the Summer.  We have been having a wonderful summer and the weather has been great.  Let me get you up to date on what we have been doing.  Sylvia and I are still doing our walks and becoming even more ambitious.  The other week we took our longest walk ever!!!  It was getting dark and we saw a black bear on our way home which made us walk very fast!!!  We literally walked from my lake to another and back again, we did not clock it but it was easy over 6 miles.  It was all very good until the bear, then as we sang our way home in the dark we had a few scares.

We have also made a couple of trips to the Old Cochecton Train Station.  One time with just Jimi and I and then two little babes and another with the entire family.   We had a great time on both occasions.  We also got some great pics that will make great prints on my new gallery wall I am creating in the family room.  I could not believe how much fun even the biggest boys had at the tracks, throwing rocks and goofing around.  Good family fun!!!

After the family train trip, Alexandra and I got to head off on a girls’ night out.  She was home for the weekend before moving up to Potsdam for a new position in the political arena.  She will be there until the end of November so we had to do some major shopping and then a nice dinner at Cracker Barrel in Binghamton for some good southern comfort food to ease the fears of relocation.  She will do fine though and she knows it and we are all so proud of her.

Throw in there the lake picnic of which Jimi is the new vice president of the Lake Owners’ Association, swimming, walking, dog issues, gardening, oh what a garden we have!!!

Well let me post some pictures of some of the things mentioned and I will try to visit my blog on a more regular basis.  Enjoy the Summer while it lasts!!!
