10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Having My Breast Augmentation

The following is a guest post. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily express the reviews of Mommy Ramblings. #sp

You’ve been thinking about it and you are finally ready to go through with it. A boob job has always been something you’ve considered. However, you don’t know the first thing about the surgery and the fact that the procedure can be called a surgery already scares you.

Well, indeed there are things worth knowing before any woman decides to go forward with breast enlargement. Below are 10 things I wish I’d known before breast augmentation – and I know you do too:

1. You will probably want another surgery

A lot of women have the first surgery and think, “I’m done,” but then go ahead and get another. First off, breast implants are not permanent, they don’t last forever. So, you might need another surgery in say 10 years, just to get new implants. Anything could happen; one of the implants could start leaking or develop a scar shell that would deform it. In both cases the only option is to get a new set.

Most women don’t like the outcome once they have the surgery. You might watch Botched and think that it’s packed with crazy women who just don’t know when to stop. On the contrary, these are genuine people who want to better their results, only they get sucked into it and turn it into an obsession.

2. You can try out various sizes before settling on one

Wouldn’t it be great if you could see how you look with different sized breasts, before actually deciding what you want? Sizers are neoprene sacks filled with beads that you can use to check different sizes.

“The bags are stuffed in the bra to get the size you want. Your implant size is determined predominantly by your existing measurements. Staying within those boundaries ensures a safe, natural result every time”, says Brisbane’s leading Breast Surgeon Dr. Ian Chinsee.

 3. It’s a lot of pain; don’t underestimate it

If someone tells you that they didn’t feel pain after the operation, either they don’t have a nervous system or they are downright lying. The pain is stupefying; the slightest movement causes a lot of agony. The pain doesn’t stay for long though – you can push through it. By the third day, it will begin to subside but, still, get ready for the pain. The psychological preparedness is everything. I did not know just how bad it was until it hit me.

4. Ask the doctor anything you need to ask – before the surgery

It sounds like something that should occur to you naturally, no? Here’s the deal. You should do all the research you can, then arm yourself with questions about everything to do with the procedure. The time before you get the implants is the only time you have to cast out all fear and doubt.

5. Your breasts will not feel realistic for a while

It’s like everything else new – the experience is different. Even someone who starts wearing glasses takes a while to get used to them. That’s all there is to it. So, before you think you dislike the feeling, give it time.

6. You will cry a lot

It’s not necessarily because of the pain we talked about before. It’s because you will not be able to do a lot of things for yourself. This affects different women at different levels, but the good news is it doesn’t last long.

7. You will feel better about yourself in the bedroom

It has been proven by scientific studies that women who get breast implants get a confidence boost when it comes to bedroom matters. Your man will love them too. A scientific study published in the magazine Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed that women also experienced more sexual satisfaction.

8. About CC and cup size

Cubic Centimeters (cc) are the units used to measure the size of implants. One thing that will help a lot is understanding what size you want. 25cc is about equal to a teaspoon, so don’t just look through the net trying to compare cc with cup size. Your doctor should help you decide the implant size that will get you to your desired size.

9. Not all doctors do it the same

Every doctor has his way of doing things. I used to think that it was all the same but it isn’t. You might be lucky and find a professional that delivers exactly what you want. But, more often than not, there is always something off. It might be so slight that you can live with it, but I don’t need to tell you about worst-case scenarios.

10. You sleep a little different

Want to know the hardest thing about sleeping in a position you are not used to? You’re never convinced you’re comfy enough even when you are. You will have to sleep on your back until the tissue holding the implants together has formed completely. Try any other sleeping position and you’ll have your boobs in your armpits. You might have to sleep propped up at an angle for a couple of weeks, but it’ll all be worth it.

The thing is, you never really know about something like this until you have it done. Even so, it helps to hear from people who have been through it and know exactly how it feels.

10 Reasons to Dehydrate Food

Preserving foods by drying has been done since ancient times. For many centuries, it was the only way to ensure foods didn’t go bad for long trips or during warm weather. It’s still done today, only it’s more of a useful, pleasant hobby than a necessity. We now have electric dehydrators that remove moisture to create stable, nutritious snacks that some people prefer to the original food. Here you’ll find some of the many benefits of a food dehydrator.

Portable

When your food has been dried, you can bring healthy snacks along wherever you go. Whether you’re driving or seeing the sites, putting a bag of dried foods in your purse or pocket gives you something healthy to snack on and keep up your energy. When in the outdoors, you can even take along dried soup ingredients and add hot water for a tasty meal.

Replace salty snacks

It’s now well-known that most store-bought snacks like chips and crackers contain a high amount of salt. They will also contain unhealthy preservatives that add toxins to the body. By drying fruits or vegetables, you can create a nutritious snack. Weaning your family off potato chips and cookies might be easier than you think if you’re offering delicious banana or apricot chips.

No chemicals

There is no need to worry about preservatives, dyes, or other chemicals. The only thing you need is a dehydrator and almost any food. Cutting your favorite fruits or meats into bite-sized slices creates a chewy dried snack that will retain its natural taste, vitamins, and minerals for months to come.

Efficient storage

Drying food can decrease its size to as little as one sixth of its original volume. Nor is there any need to make room in the freezer or refrigerator. After dehydrating, a few pounds of apples will easily fit into a sandwich bag. You can seal it up and tuck it away in a corner of the pantry to snack on long after fresh apples have spoiled.

Raw foods

Diets based on eating a majority of foods in the raw state are very popular. It makes perfect sense, since boiling and other means of cooking tends to destroy a good percentage of vitamins. This begins to happen as low as 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Dehydrators can preserve your food at even lower temperatures, which means you’re also preserving all the natural fiber and nutrition.

Reduction of waste

The ability to preserve excessive grocery purchases and even leftovers not only save you money but can save time. Dehydrated meals can be easily warmed up again with water, broths, or soup stock. Reducing waste also means lower demand, lower commercial production, and less stress on the environment. You can even go as far as growing your favorite herbs or vegetables in your own garden. You’ll never have to buy them again if you dry and preserve the overage.

Save on costs

Dehydration eliminates spoilage and waste so that you save money over time on every perishable food item you buy. You can also save money in other ways:
* Buy in bulk and dry the excess for storage.
* Purchase your own fresh herbs and dry them for flavoring.
* Provide dried fruits for delicious snacks instead of sugary commercial items.
* Make healthy snack mixes to put out at gatherings or give as gifts.

Consistent quality

With your own dehydrator, you have control over what foods you choose to dry, how much, and how often. You can cut and separate them into any portion sizes you like, or add some lemon juice or cinnamon for a little zest. You can serve your own dried foods to guests and family with the confidence that they are perfectly healthy treats with no hidden ingredients.

Buy during peak seasons

You can save more money and reduce waste even more by stocking up on fresh local produce. During the harvest season, pick up staples like tomatoes, blueberries, or even melons at roadside stands. These are generally fresher and healthier than the big chain grocery store produce that’s trucked in from all over the country. Dry them and you’ll have a delicious food source all winter long.

Fun family projects

Dehydrating and saving healthy snacks is something the whole family can get behind. It’s not hard to do with a little supervision. Everyone in the household can pick their favorite foods and take part in preparing, drying, and storing them right in the kitchen on those cold or rainy days. You might even come up with a new mouth-watering recipe for beef jerky.

Dehydrators are a convenient and simple way of preserving natural foods. In modern times it’s become the best and cheapest option. You can repurpose dried ingredients any way you like. Dehydrating food can easily become part of a healthier new lifestyle.

A Parent’s Guide to Childhood Asthma

Asthma is recognized as one of the leading chronic disorders in childhood, affecting almost 7 million kids in the United States alone. Despite this, a lot of parents remain uneducated or misinformed about what exactly makes it a serious condition. And for parents of kids with asthma, proper education on the disease is imperative to avoid situations that may require emergency care or cause life-threatening complications.

Asthma is incurable, but there are a lot of ways to manage it. Find out what you need to know about asthma and how to prevent its attacks with this step by step guide created by FilterBuy.com.

Asthma is more common in the United States than you might think

asthma-infographic-1

Around 1 to 2 in every 10 kids (approximately 14%) have been told that they have asthma. The thing is, with this condition being incurable, the children who are part of the 14% will grow up and add to the already growing number of teens and adults living with asthma. It is more common than one might think.

Health concerns with asthma

asthma-infogrphic-5

Every year, around 10.5 million school days are missed because of asthma and its complications. In 2010 alone, the number of emergency room cases by children complaining of asthma-related problems added up to a staggering 640,000 visits. These are certainly legitimate health concerns, especially when you factor in that over 150 kids die every year from asthma.

5 Steps to Act Against Your Child’s Asthma

Step 1: Increase your asthma awareness

asthma-graphic-1

Asthma causes the airways to become narrow and then start to swell, causing inflammation. Additionally, this causes extra mucus to be produced. The inflammation of the airways plus the excessive mucus causes difficulty in breathing, which makes the asthmatic person start to wheeze, cough, and experience shortness of breath.

asthma-infogrphic-2

Males are generally more at risk for being affected by asthma. Genetics also play a huge role in determining the risk factor for this condition, as does the existence of allergies, and respiratory infections. Being constantly exposed to a polluted environment can also increase the risk for asthma.

Step 2: Know the triggers and how to avoid them

asthma-infographic-3

Cigarette smoke and pollution can magnify the symptoms of asthma, as will allergens such as pollen and dust. The dander of pets can also trigger symptoms, and this is why a lot of people with asthma opt not to bring in pets into their homes. Having an upper respiratory infection can also cause asthma symptoms.

asthma-infographic-4

Excessive physical activity can exacerbate the symptoms of asthma, so exercise should be done under the doctor’s recommendation. Symptoms are more common in cold weather, and excessive emotional outburst like crying or yelling can trigger them even more.

Step 3: Manage asthma symptoms
Take your child to the doctor as soon as asthma symptoms are noticed. Early treatment can avoid trips to the emergency room and missed workdays for parents.

What Asthma Medications Do Doctors Prescribe?

Quick Relief

asthma-graphic-2

At times called “rescue” medication, quick relief meds are given to provide fast relief from asthma symptoms. The relief is short-term, though, but they work in a similar way as first-aid medications. They mostly come in inhaler form.

Long-term Control

asthma-graphic-3

The goal of long-term control is to prevent symptoms from coming up, as well as to avoid asthma attacks which can be deadly. This typically involves the intake of daily medication through oral, inhaled, or intravenous methods.

asthma-graphic-4

When to call 911?
Asthma causes the airways to get inflamed, which makes breathing difficult. When the child afflicted with asthma starts gasping for air, or has trouble speaking, it’s time to call 911.

Step 4: Prevent Asthma Attacks

Prevention is always far better than cure, and in asthma, there are ways to prevent attacks from occurring. The focus should be on eliminated the triggers that could cause asthma symptoms to show, and this includes minimizing dust, reducing pet dander, avoiding pollen and mold growth, eliminating smoking, and ensuring that the child stays healthy. Changing air filters regularly is one way to avoid these dangers. Parents should also coordinate with the teachers at school about the child’s condition so they can take necessary measures in keeping the environment at school safe for children with asthma.

Step 5: Help your child stay healthy

asthma-graphic-5

Asthma can be deadly when not properly controlled, but it can certainly be managed. Preparing an Asthma Action Plan on top of the careful monitoring of the child’s asthma symptoms can help a lot in disease management. By keeping the child healthy and fit, asthma complications and attacks can be prevented.

Kitchen Renovations-What You Should Know

Kitchen renovations are much different today than they ever have been before. It used to be that when someone did a kitchen renovation or a remodel the only real options they had were the design and architectural features of the room such as arches/doorways, walls/ceilings, and flooring or additional space options.

These days, though, you have many other elements you can add such as smart appliances and products for a smartly designed kitchen. If you are curious about the different smart kitchen ideas available, consider reading the article below for some cool and technology driven ideas to make your kitchen more forward friendly, convenient and comfortable.

smart appliances

Smart Appliances For A Smart Kitchen

Most appliances in the kitchen are already pretty darn smart in terms of timers and knowing when to stop cooking a product. But, you also have a lot of other different “smart” options available to you, such as:

– Touchscreen Stove Tops: Not only is this a really cool type of cooking technology, but it can also be used in a kitchen with children as well, since it’s a very safe product to use. Essentially the cook top uses conduction to heat things like pots and pans. But, the other parts of the stove stay cool – to the touch. You can actually use the touch screen to browse the internet, look up recipes to make, check out cookbooks in digital format and more.

– Home Chat: This cool little app is meant for specific things like the fridge. It will essentially keep track of items and ingredients inside the refrigerator and you can ask it questions such as: Do we have butter and it will reply back via text yes two sticks or no we do not. This is really efficient because you can use the app even out of the house.

Smart Fridge

This is a really cool option but in the near future, we will also have an even cooler option (it’s a concept right now) that will actually order food, keep track of what’s in the fridge and alert you when you are running low, and do a plethora of other cool options. For now, though, you have these smart refrigerators. The LCD display allows you to watch TV, listen to the radio, check the news, leave memos for yourself or other family members, check out the calendar and leave notes on specific days and more. It’s quite expensive, at around $3600 but if you want a tech driven kitchen, this might be the addition for you… for now anyway, until that higher tech fridge comes along!

Pair 3D Design Application

Okay, this is a really cool app and unlike any other smart application above. It’s only an Apple App right now, though. Essentially what you do is you bring up the camera on your iPhone and the app will give you different furniture options for that camera viewer. In the camera viewer, you can see how that piece of furniture or an appliance would fit in your space, what it would look in a 3D manner and more. The app can also be used by brands and businesses as well. But it’s also a great design tool for home owners that allow you to set up a room in real-time.

Radiant Flooring

In a lot of cases, you see radiant flooring done in a bathroom. But, since more and more people are also using porcelain in the kitchen as well (its durable, budget friendly and beautiful) some manufactures have started to make radiant flooring options for the kitchen too. This is a perfect option for any flooring in the kitchen, but especially stone or tile like porcelain because even though it does have a lot of benefits, one of the disadvantages are that it can get quite cool to the touch in the winter. In order to fix this, you can use radiant heating underneath the flooring to warm it up before you ever set foot on it.

Radiant flooring can be set on a timer so that it turns on every morning before you wake up to make the floor nice and toasty so when you come down for breakfast or coffee the floor is already heated up. You can also use Wi-Fi with a lot of radiant flooring systems so as soon as you wake up you can turn on your app – and have the floor heated so by the time you make it downstairs it’s warmed. Tile flooring like porcelain is a great conductor of heat. In fact, the two best materials to use a radiant floor on are porcelain and wood. Porcelain is a really good option though because it won’t expand as it warms and cools which means it won’t crack which means your flooring will last for longer!

There you have it, kitchen renovation ideas that you should know before you start your project.

3 Main Reasons Why Parents Should Write a Will

A will is a legal document that specifies who will acquire your real estate properties, cars, bank accounts, jewelry, and the like when you die. It is up to you to whom you will leave all of your belongings, just be sure that they are eligible to receive and that everything goes through a clear legal process.

As for parents writing a will and testament is not all about the properties, rather the assurance that your children will still be well taken care of when you are gone. You need to choose trusted people in your family to look after them in case anything happens to you.

Here are some of the reasons why parents should draft a will for their kids:

will image

To avoid family disputes

Will and testament disputes happen to even among the closest part of the family. Challenging a will implies that one party thinks he deserves more than what is written in the will, hence if one of your children challenge your will with your other kids, their relationship might suffer from irreparable damage and as parent, this is difficult to imagine. That is why, it is important that you properly and carefully write a will to make sure your children get equal shares of the property you’d leave and avoid any family disputes in the future.

To have a trusted guardian to look after your children

The most difficult task for parents when drafting a will is choosing a guardian for their children. It is really tough to decide on this matter, but you have to do it anyway. Your children’s future well-being is at risk when unexpected things happen to you. This is the reason why you need to choose a person who you think will take good care and love your children when you are gone. Also, it is essential to name a trustee, someone who will manage any properties you pass on to your children, in your will.

will photo

To make distributing assets easier

The problem about not having a will is that the probate court might send away inquiry letters to financial institutions to handle the deceased’s financial situation. Additionally, your relatives may be requested to give out financial documents. By writing a will and testament beforehand, you can prevent all the paperwork and footwork your relatives will exert. You will save them from all the hassle and stress that they might acquire from processing various documents. Having a clear proof of distribution of your assets for the court to see will be easier and more convenient for everyone involved.

It is your obligation as a parent to secure your kids future and drafting a will as early as now is the first step in keeping your kids safe in case something unexpected happens. Nobody knows what is going to happen tomorrow, so might as well be ready by securing a will.

Many people think that a will is unnecessary and just a waste of money, but no one knows the future and you can leave your kids behind in an instant. Would you rather leave them with problems or investments? As parents, we obviously know the answer.

Melting Pot: The 5 Most Culturally Diverse Cities in America

The United States has long been called the world’s melting pot due to the great number of immigrants that moved here at the beginning of the twentieth century and continue to come. Today, many cities welcome immigrants with open arms. Here are a few of the country’s most culturally diverse cities.

New York, New York

New York City was the starting point for many Europeans as they made their way to America in search of paradise. However, much of the cultural landscape has since changed; 28.6 percent is Latino, 33.3 percent is white, 22.9 percent black, and 12.7 percent is Pacific Islander. Within each of these groups is a range of people from various countries, primarily Italy, Ireland, China, Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean, creating an eclectic mix of food, art, music, and overall culture. If you love diversity, New York is definitely one of the best places to live.

San Francisco, California

Beginning in the 1850s, Chinese immigrants came in masses to San Francisco for a better quality of life. Today, the city has over 150,000 residents of Chinese heritage which comprise 21.4 percent of the population. San Francisco’s Chinatown is the largest outside of Asia – even larger than New York’s. An additional 15.4 percent of the population is Hispanic, making San Francisco the second largest melting pot on the west coast.

china town

Miami, Florida

Miami’s proximity to the Caribbean gives it a unique identity. Cuban, Puerto Rican, Haitian, and Dominican populations are large, each with their own unique neighborhood. This lends itself to a unique mix of food, music, and architecture. If you are in Miami, make sure you try a Cuban sandwich, made with pork, swiss cheese, and pickles on Cuban bread – a true delicacy.

San Antonio, Texas

Even before Texas became a state, it had a large Hispanic population, and today, the city has a completely different demographic. Over 50 percent of the population is Hispanic, making it the largest Hispanic population in the country. Authentic Mexican and Central American food is abundant, and many bars and restaurants deal strictly in Spanish. When in San Antonio, visit the Hispanic Heritage Jalapeno Festival and check out a Mariachi band or two.

Los Angeles, California

The beautiful weather and scenery attracts not only Americans from around the country, but also people from all over the world. Almost half of the population has Hispanic ancestry, 14 percent are Asian, and nine percent are black. The true beauty of the city is that its ethnic and cultural diversity creates a creative atmosphere that is found only in Los Angeles. Plus, if you love film festivals, Los Angeles churns them out in different styles and languages, from blockbusters to small, independent films.

Cultural diversity is the catalyst to attaining a more creative and tolerable living situation. Whether your family came 100 years ago or just last month, the country provides fertile cities to plant new roots for anyone searching for the “American Dream”. All you have to do is find out what that dream is.

A Quality Bunk Bed Plus a Soft, Single Mattress Equals Sound Sleep

*The article below is a guest post by Jennifer Cartwright.

Good-Quality-Sleep

Achieving the rest we need involves much more than our physical mindset alone. A soft, single mattress is perfect for those who want to experience sound sleep and therefore achieve a healthy lifestyle. Of course, there are several reasons behind this observation and it is important to appreciate the numerous benefits that such bedding will offer. Thankfully, we do not have to be expert chiropractors to understand some of the basic principles and qualities to look for. Let’s have a closer examination.

The Comfort of Your Body

Although many of the most respected sleep advice articles mention proper exercise, reducing stress and meditating, very few recognise how important a firm (and yet soft) mattress can be in obtaining quality rest.

I would suggest on checking out Buyer’s Guide to Bunk Bed Mattress that way you will know exactly what to look for. There are hundreds of choices out there, so make sure you go with a soft/plushy mattress feel but this also will depend on what type of sleeper you are, so make sure to do your research.

As quality sleep is so important, traditional mattresses that contain box springs should be avoided. They will not accommodate for the natural contours of your body. This can lead to a restless sleep and even back problems. If possible, a type of material known as memory foam is the best choice. As it will evenly distribute your weight, you are more likely to achieve the proper amount of rest.
Memory-Foam-Mattress
Bunk Beds

Although it is an unfortunate fact, some of us have trouble sleeping next to another person. Perhaps our partner is very restless or we simply cannot get comfortable. In this case, purchasing a high-quality bunk bed is an ideal solution. In fact, you will be surprised to learn that some individuals actually sleep better when they are higher up. It is likely that you will not know this until you try it out.

coolest Bunk Beds

The best beds will offer the same mattresses as described above alongside a sturdy frame and the possibility of safety bars on the top bunk. Thankfully, there are a number of styles and designs to choose from. These include countless types of wood finishes and even metal frames.

Getting a solid night of sleep is essential in warding off illnesses, maintaining a healthy mental outlook and functioning in our daily lives. Choosing the right type of single mattress combined with a quality bunk bed can help you to enjoy the sleep that you so desperately desire.

However, if you can budget your money in a clever way you can add luxurious details to your dollhouse with breaking the bank.

Figure out on which aspects of your dollhouse you can get away with spending less. For example, you can use a cheap paint for the walls or find carpet samples for free to cover the floors with. Whenever you are able to cut down your expenses, this means that you will have more money to spend on a few lavish treats – such as a beautiful miniature canopy bed or a chandelier.

Even if you have to choose the cheapest dollhouse building supplies because you have a small budget, with a little bit of care and creativity you can make it look beautiful. Dollhouse building is more about the love and care you put into the project, rather than the cost of the materials.

Look for Sets

Here’s a tip when you are buying furniture for your dollhouse – look for “sets”. Sometimes dollhouse furniture will come in a kitchen set, a dining room set, a bedroom set, etc. For example, a bedroom set might include a bed, a vanity with a mirror and a wardrobe. A living room set might have two arm chairs along with a footrest or a coffee table.

Usually, buying this furniture in sets means that you will save money. Also, it will ensure that all of the furniture in the room matches and has a similar style – which can be difficult when you are buying pieces separately.

Don’t Forget to Think About Scale

It is important to make sure that the dollhouse furniture that you are buying is on the same scale – otherwise it will not work in your house and will look strange with the other furniture. Once you choose a scale you will need to stick with it and buy all of your furniture in that scale from that point on.

The scale you choose is up to your preference – so think about how much room you have for your dollhouse and how large or tiny you want it to be. The most commonly used scale is the 1/12 scale, where one inch of the dollhouse is equal to one foot of the real item. There are other scales used, but since they are not as common you might find it more difficult to locate furniture in this scale.
