“The Organic Family Cookbook” by Anni Daulter, Review & Give-Away!!! 2 Winners!!! {Give-Away Ended}

You may remember, this Summer we reviewed a book about healthy ice pops called, “Ice Pop Joy,” by Anni Daulter.  I was recently sent, Anni’s new cookbook, “The Organic Family Cookbook” to review.  This book is all about growing, greening and cooking together.

Anni Daulter believes that eating organic, fresh, nutritional foods are the key to good health, and that raising children to understand and appreciate this is the key to creating a healthy and happy family.

“When we decide to cook fresh, from‐scratch foods, it does take some time and thoughtful planning, but when you sit down to that meal cooked with such love and care, it makes it all worth it,” said Daulter. “The in‐between moments with our families — cooking, creating, and being together — make up the goodness of life, and nothing tastes better than that!”

The recipes in The Organic Family Cookbook, are wholesome, fun, and kid and family tested, and use ingredients easily obtainable from standard grocers, green markets or a personal garden.

“Anni understands how to cook and share a good meal with those she cares about. She knows that at the heart of a healthy family there is a strong relationship to unadulterated ingredients that come straight from the earth, whether it be from your own garden, farmers’ market, or natural food store,” said Anna Getty, founder of Pregnancy Awareness Month, and an author, cook, educator, and mother.

The book is divided into sections, based on the type of meal or snack the recipes create. These include:

  • Naturally Tasty Breakfasts (to start each day off well)
  • Simple Snacks (a necessity for every active family)
  • Wholesome Lunches (to pack or enjoy at home)
  • Savory Sides (tasty, healthy additions to any meal)
  • Family Favorite Dinners (for everyday meals and special occasions)
  • Homespun Favorites (with homemade staples no one can resist)
  • Table of Equivalents

Included in each chapter are sidebars offering tips about the way her family puts these principles into practice, and include everything from starting a garden to grow your own food to tips on turning a kitchen green to making your own, chemical‐free cleaning products. Other sidebars suggest activities the family can do together, alternatives to plastic bags and dishware, recycling tips and much more.

“As inspiring as it is practical, Anni Daulter’s The Organic Family Cookbook combines delicious, healthy recipes for any day of the week with gorgeous photography,” said Pilar Guzman, Editor‐In‐Chief of Martha Stewart Living and co‐founder of Momfilter.com. “It’s also very personal, offering a glimpse into one family’s beautiful — yet relatable — life with food.”

Anni Daulter is an eco‐mama, professional cook, advocate for sustainable living, and author. Anni is the co‐founder of a conscious family living magazine called Bamboo, and is author of Ice Pop Joy andOrganically Raised: Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers. Anni lives in Los Angeles, California with her family

My Views:

I love gardening, growing things with my family.  It is so wonderful to see the little ones learn how food grows.  My kids love to garden with us. This book is great because it is not just a cookbook, it is a way of life, and it is a way of life that our family cherishes.  I am a huge VitaMixer and we love fruit and veggies.  I normally add things such as ground flax-seed to our green smoothies so I was glad to find it used in so many of her recipes.  Having four very ripe bananas, I decided the first recipe I would try would be the Goodwill Banana Bread.

Goodwill Banana Bread

2 cups of whole wheat pastry flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons flax-seed

2 teaspoons wheat germ

2 pinches sea salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup raw agave nectar

1/2 cup pure cane sugar

2 eggs beaten

4 overripe bananas mashed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 5 x 9 inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, flax-seed, wheat germ, salt and walnuts.

In another bowl, mix together butter, agave nectar, and sugar.  Stir in eggs and bananas until blended.

Combine banana mixture into flour mixture and stir just until mixed.  Pour batter into greased loaf pan.  Bake for about 1 hour, until edges are golden brown an inserted toothpick in the center comes out clean.  Let cool before removing from pan.

Makes 1 loaf

I used ground flax-seed and substituted honey for the agave nectar.  It came out so great, it was really moist and delicious.  I will definitely be using this as our banana bread recipe from now on.

I can’t wait to try the Nurturing Butternut Squash Soup with Parmesan Crisps using the butternut squash we grew in our garden.  I am definitely trying the Fall Pumpkin Spiced Cookies as well, we love making cookies with pumpkin in the Fall.  I highly recommend this cookbook and it has a wealth of information about different flours, kids composting, veggie dyed eggs for Easter and much more.

DoodleMark Bookmark And Drawing Pad Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

The DoodleMark is a new kind of bookmark that allows kids and parents to interact with books together, like never before. Whether practicing sight words together, working on vocabulary, drawing letters, bookmarking their progress or just doodling a funny picture – its all about creative learning and having fun.

Kids love to clip a DoodleMark to any book and let their creativity run free. And parents understand the true value of learning to read and write with something that is useful, simple and powered only by a kid’s own imagination.

I was recently asked to select a DoodleMark to review.  I chose the Wild Racer design and it is so cute.  The little red race car on the top erases the drawing pad.  This is really a great idea for kids and can be used when reading with a parent, practicing spelling or working on sight words.  Would make a great stocking stuffer, as Christmas will be here before we know it.  Great to use on trips and when out to eat along with a favorite book.  You can watch a video here to see how it works.

I am happy to let you all know, that DoodleMark is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win the a DoodleMark in their choice of design.  Thank you DoodleMark for review product and for sponsoring this great give-away.  Open to US and Canadian Residents.

Snappi Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

One of the options for cloth diapering is to use regular old fashioned diapers, called prefolds. This is one of the most cost effective cloth diapering systems, and many people swear by it! One issue I’ve had with the prefolds, is that I don’t like using diaper pins. I get nervous that they will poke my baby’s tender tummy, and I worry about the pins rusting. Well I was recently sent this interesting little doodad called a Snappi from Snappi Baby, that has made using prefolds much easier! The Snappi is a small, stretchy, T shaped diaper fastener. It has small claws at each end that hook into the edges of the diaper fabric and holds it all together, ensuring a snug-fitting diaper. No more struggling with poky pins on a wiggly baby! The Snappi  works not just on prefolds, but on other fabrics, so it can be used for fitted diapers as well. I like that the Snappi is so easy to use, I can just fasten the diaper together, and it takes so much less time than using pins!  This unique product was invented by a father who experienced frustration changing his own child’s diapers. A snap solution to easier cloth diapering!

The benefits of this fastener include:

  • SAFER THAN PINS – no more pinpricks for baby or parent!!
  • RELIABLE – a snug fitting diaper to prevent those dreaded leaks
  • DURABLE – no snaps that can become brittle/rust, nor any velcro to catch all the lint in the wash!!  At least if your Snappi® fastener needs to be replaced, your expensive diaper is not wasted!!
  • ECONOMICAL – affordable fastener that works very well with the less expensive flat, prefold or contour cloth diapers
  • EASY to use – allows first time parents, grandparents and people with arthritic problems to cloth diaper with ease.   It is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3

I am pleased to tell you that Snappi is sponsoring a give-away on Mommy Ramblings. One lucky reader will win their own Snappi diaper fastener! Thank you Snappi for the review Snappi and for sponsoring this great give-away!!  Open to US Residents.

YAY! Planes-DVD Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I was recently sent a YAY! Planes DVD to review.  YAY! PLANES is a fun and interactive DVD for kids ages 2-5. Hosts Argyle and Jim, two socks who live in lost luggage, introduce preschoolers to different types of airplanes as they take-off, land, taxi, and fly over farms, fields, mountains and lakes. While the kids are rockin’ out to fun songs like “Letters on an Airplane,” they will learn to spell with words that pilots use and identify shapes on a plane. In the end, the entire family will be singing along to the catchy YAY! PLANES theme song.

This was such a fun DVD to watch with the little guys.  They loved the sounds, watching the planes take off, seeing the helicopter and all the songs.  Little kids love seeing how things work and this DVD shows preschoolers the fascinating word of planes.

flat iron experts, Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron Review!!!

I was recently asked by flat iron experts if I wanted to review a curling iron.  Since I do use a curling iron on my hair daily, I was game.  They sent me a Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron with a 1″ barrel.

Hot Tools Professional Curling Iron (1 inch):

The Hot Tools Curling Iron is by far the most popular curling iron in the world, its been around since the beginning and it has lasted through time for one reason alone cause it simply works. Hot Tools Curling irons is ranked #1 on our Top Curling Iron List mainly because of their reliability, performance and most of all its low price. If you simply want a curling iron that will get the job done this will be your choice.

The Hot Tools curling iron heats up to 430 F, great for all hair types. Comes with 8-ft improved swivel cord for longer cord life, fewer kinks and tangles.  Hot Tools Curling Iron has a 1 year warranty so if anything happen just simply send it back to us and we will mail you a new one. If you want something economical that simply works, Hot Tools would be your #1 choice.

My View:

I really like this curling iron, it heats up fast, stays hot and curls my hair in seconds.  I have given my old curling iron the boot.  The only thing that I have to watch is making sure to turn it off.  I am so used to auto shut-off, that I have forgotten this curling iron on.  Nothing ever happened, but it is something I have had to train myself to watch.  The style stays all day and until I shower and the curling iron itself is super easy to work with.  The swivel cord is really helpful and the thumb grip and handle are super comfortable.  I really recommend this curling iron.  It is fantastic!!!

Smart Planet Collapsible Large and Small Lunch Box Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Description: new smart planet logo (2)

I was recently contacted by Smart Planet to do a review of their collapsible lunch boxes.  They sent me out a large and a small to review.  They each come with a two-sided utensil that stores neatly in the lid.  Everything is dishwasher safe which I love and these great boxes are made of silicone and collapse to become flat and compact for easy storage.  The large lunchbox has a large compartment and two smaller compartments.  The compartments are deep and hold a lot.  The small lunch box has one large compartment that is also deep.  The boxes are microwave safe for reheating.  They are very well made and it is as easy as they say to collapse them and open them up.  Even after running them through the dishwasher, the lids fit fine.  They come in assorted colors and really make lunch fun.  BPA free and FDA compliant materials used throughout.  They can be purchased on Amazon.com.

I was recently asked to pick a pair of Miraclebody Jeans by Miraclesuit to review.  I have reviewed the Miraclesuit in the past and liked it very much so I was eager to try the jeans.  There were a lot of styles and washes to choose from but I finally settled on the Samantha Signature Jeans in Licorice.  The jeans have a contoured waistband that fits comfortably 1″ below the belly button for maximum control without looking like, “Mom Jeans.”  They are slightly higher in the back for a no-panty-peaking gap-free fit.  Pocket bags are stitched flat to eliminate unsightly bulk by the belly.  Patented embroidered back pockets with subtle embellishments are designed to draw the eye inward, giving the appearance of a slimmer look.  Unique handcrafted canvas control pan flattens the tummy for smoother shape.  I tried them on and they fit true to size, were very comfortable and even at my height at 5’8″ they were very long.  They would be the perfect length to wear with heels.  I wear flats mostly because I am running after little ones so they were a bit long. I am thinking that when washed it may help that.  It is not that big of a deal and I would rather have them long than too short as some jeans can be on tall women.  I really liked the look of them and so did my husband.  They are very slimming and flattering and definitely do not look like the dreaded, “Mom Jeans.”
