The Children’s Labels Company Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Diana at The Children’s Labels Company sent me a nice assortment of their products.  She sent me dishwasher safe, waterproof name labels, iron on labels for light and dark fabrics, and the cutest bag tags.  I have to admit when I saw that these were waterproof and would withstand the dishwasher I was skeptical for a few reasons.  The first being, I know labels and water don’t usually mix too well.  Second, which will be no surprise for those who know me, since I am a germophobe, I have a dishwasher that sanitizes everything, with not only the hottest water but steam and heat.  So, when you open my dishwasher the steam that emits is so strong it could strip your wallpaper.

I had just recently picked up some Curious Chef Mugs for the boys at Wegmans (love my Wegmans), so I thought I would use them as my guinea pigs.  I read the instructions and you apply the labels to a clean dry surface and not wash or get it wet for 24 hours.  After the time was up I placed the cups in with the dishes and ran my usual heavy-duty cycle with a high temperature scrub and sanitizing cycle.  They did not stand a chance.  When it was finished and I opened the dishwasher for my facial and the steam just filled the kitchen, I knew it would not be good.  I was shocked to reach in and find the labels as bright and crisp and secure as they were before I put them in their exfoiliating sauna.  A few days ago, we put them on the boys identical excavators.  They have been playing in the dirt and rain with these trucks and the labels are readable and secure.

Now, I am going to set about labeling everything in site.  It is great because we are going on vacation and I can label the kids toys and clothes.  It works really well because we usually buy two of everything for our Irish Twins.  It is also the start of T-ball so I can label Ethan’s bat and batting helmet and mitt so it will not get mixed up with the team equipment.  These labels are great for labeling bottles and sippy cups for daycare, pre-school or the church nursery.  The possibilities are endless.

After the Wash!!!

Now for the best part!!!  The Children’s Labels Company is giving me three certificates for 3 lucky blog readers.  You will be able to get your very own personalized labels with the gift certificate.

Tradewind Books, “On My Walk” Book Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Recently Tradewind Books sent me a book to review and one to use for a give-away.  They sent me the children’s book, “On My Way” by Kari-Lynn Winters and illustrated by Christina Leist.  I shared it with my 2 year old Luke tonight, and he just loved it.  It was such a fitting and relative book for us because we take a lot of walks, and live in the country.  This book follows a small child as he walks with his mother and his dog in the country.  Luke loved that the dog looked like one of our dogs, Delilah.  It was a great book because even though the words on each page were few, the content allowed us to talk about our own experiences.  For instance the child sees a frog and we talked about how we see frogs on our walks.  He was delighted  seeing  a little boy like him, seeing the same things he does, on his walk.  It was a short, pleasant read and was just perfect for spurring conversation in a toddler or pre-schooler.  The illustrations are charming and amusing, like when the dog is licking the boy’s ice cream cone.  We give this book 2 thumbs up, oh wait, 4 thumbs up!!!

excerpt:

On my walk,
my summer walk,
I hear a horse, clippity-clop, clippity-clop,
and a frog, frippity-frop, frippity-frop

    The Tractor Cake!!!

    Ethan’s tractor cake was a big hit.  Such a big hit, he did not want to cut it but wanted to play with the tractors on top of it.   It was delicious too filled with a vanilla buttercream and iced with a decadent chocolate buttercream and then decorated with crushed oreos and green buttercream icing with a grass tip.  It went very fast and was a lot of fun.   Here are some pictures.  If you have any questions, ask away!!!

    Getting ready to hit the road!!!

    Well, we have a few weeks before we leave but there is so much that needs to be done before a big road trip and vacation.  I have been putting things we need to bring in one of those big tubs that has the rope handles.  It is overflowing.  Sunscreen for kids, sunscreen for adults, sunglasses for everyone, water shoes, beach toys, cleaning supplies, hats and more.  I bought a collapsible insulated cooler for the ride down and at the beach to keep drinks cold.  We are going to have to purchase one of those cargo carriers you put on the top of your van for everything we need.  My husband likes to say, “Don’t worry we will buy whatever we need when we get there.”  He does not understand that I need to know we have what we need for the most part.  I am all for running to the store for essentials and little things but I want to know that I am pretty much set when we get there.   We are traveling with our two little 6 month old puppies, so we have a lot of their stuff as well to cart along with us.   Next I have to get our clothes together and figure out what to bring.  The little guys have a lot of new summer clothes so they are easy to pack for.  I have to go through my things and get to my summer stuff and see what I want to bring.  I pack too much but that is the way I am.  Oh and have I mentioned my husband is bringing a guitar or two because he is going to jam with family down there.  We will be tightly packed I am sure and I will be bringing quite the DVD assortment for the kids.    I would love to hear any tips that you have found helpful in road trips and vacations with toddlers and pets.
